ok guys..i just had a thread about me and an si but i need help on this one..its a hard one to swallow..i gotta add this one because i dont kno what to think..me and my girlfriend were leaving the mall and we stopped at a light..a ford lightning rolls up and i looked at my girlfriend and said "im about to get smoked" so i roll back in forth(clutch gas..you guys do it im sure) and the light turns green..we go slow at first..i hit second doing about 20 and he punches it. i dont kno exactly how hard he hit it but he was trying to get in front of me or he was trying to run..so i hit it and we're bumper to bumper my whole 2nd gear..i shifted into 3rd and pulled a bumper then he let off..there we're no beeps no hand signals saying "lets race" or anything..should i classify this as a win or just playing around with a lightning...he SHOULD of ate me alive..them things move..thats why i'm so confused. and i swear on anything this is a true story..i already kno i should of lost soo i just need some inputs on what you's would say about it..whats funny is no one wanted to race when my intake was in..this is the 2nd race i had the day AFTER i took my intake out..wtf

 

Maybe he wast testing you to see if you would.. Or maybe see what you had?

 

yeah im confused.. he was trying to make a statement but he didnt follow through with it..he should of took me like it was nothing.

 

He has you hands down. I guess you can consider it as a win but from a stop the Lightning has the Balts at all speeds as far as I know. I raced one at 60 and he pulled like hell.

 

yeah..they pull on my buddy's z28 like nothing..i wish i knew what was going on..i dont understand why he let off..i was thinking maybe he didnt wanna race and he was just trying to switch lanes real quick and it made me look like an ass trying to race him.

 

Lightnings haul ass! I think he was messing with you... Bone stock those things would run mid 13s, a very easy and consistent mid 13.

 

That could be exactly it, I have little Civic's do that **** all the time, rev at the light and they take off and I just go about my business.....

 

he didnt want his car to catch fire. Just ******* around lol ive seen one in action and i would not get embarrassed by a pickup so i wouldnt race lol.

 

it was weird though..he was just driving normal next to me and just stepped on it so my first initial reaction is..step on it..lol i can't help it even if i get smoked its a habit that i cant be broken..i like them trucks matter of fact my dad was going to buy me one but i wanted a cobalt instead..life long regret.

 

I'm the same way....also haulin ass with my car but as gas gets higher I get wiser and slow down.

 

yeah..i realize that AFTER the situation..with my intake on i was only getting 19.5mph..how i dont kno so i had to switch back..now i'm getting 21.8 thank god..i cant complain about are gas though..its cheaper then alot of places.

what motors do they have in them?

 

the second and third gen lightings have a s/c 5.4l in em.

 

To tell yout he truth Car and driver and all the other road testes they run anywhere between 13.8- 14.2.... If you are staged and **** and he's stock he shouldnt pull on you at all. "unless u cant drive"... I hang and pull lightnings daily. Not to be cocky im just tired of people underestimating their calls cause they cant drive... Take it easy just wanted to put my input. And yeah stock obvioulsly 13.8 is faster than the stock ss/sc 14.4 and both cars and be modded just the lightning a little bit more

 

13.8-14.4 in a vehicle that hooks off the line unlike us. If modded we can pull 13.9-14.2 consistantly with terrible 60ft then I would expect us to be faster than one stock from a ROLL.

Really, should either be equal or we should be slightly faster. I would guess the guy was just messing around. If not he would be ahead by a lot from a dig.

(and i know, most V8s are easy to upgrade. I was tlaking about a stock truck vs stage 2 balt)

 

doesn't take much in the way of mods to get a lightning to really open up

my buddy's lightning was ungodly. he was a ***** about racing it at the track (refused to heat up the rubber even a -little- because the tires were so expensive, and always scared about hurting his tranny), and really flat out raced like a *****...but still ran in the low 13's. forget what all he had done to the truck...intake, full exhaust, TB, dyno tune...can't remember what all else, but he dynoed on a mustang dyno @ 484whp and withing 10-15 wtq of that. thing was mean as hell. pretty too, custom silver paint with hard tonneau + carpetted bed, pretty nice system, all sorts of clean looking...and after starting a family, I hear he traded it in for a Toyota Corolla, but i've never verified this...mostly because if it's true, I'll cry myself to death...so I'm just pretending the info is unreliably sourced.

you should have got killed, he def wasn't flooring it. My g/fs dad has an 03 and it runs low 13s all day. He has full exhaust tho.

 

Honestly with my 2˘. With you're mods and considering if he was stock that sounds about right. From a roll you should be able to keep up if not beat him. And yes those trucks are fast but I've raced from stock to slightly modded lightning's and I have a intense stg 3 with injen cai, and I've beat them.

i didnt read everything but lightnings are beatable...
i have taken 3 down so far in my balt... and have talked with 2 of the guys i raced.. both were flipping bricks wondering what all i have done... less then $500 in total mods.. and beating lightings.. thats good enough for me

 

You are unbelievable. I can't believe how you talk in other threads about Cobalts not being anywhere as powerful as Mustangs, let alone a Lightning, and there you are......

perhaps your having reading comprehension problems..
no where in the other thread did i slam my cobalt or any.. i said i am not delusional to say that my BALT is more beastly then MY stang...

and the lightinings.. yes.. 3 taken down.. none from a dig since all snuck up on me.. all pulls were from 40-120 and all had me in the lead between 1/2 - 1.5 car lengths..

yes.. this car is "quick".. but it is not fast....

 

No comprehension problems here.

Your Balt (with your mods) should beat a stock stang (pre-2005) or even a stock one (pre-2005) with a 75 shot on it fairly easily. If it doesn't then you're messing up somewhere when driving the Balt.

so what do yous think..count it or dont count it..considering i SHOULD, let me say it one more time so yous all understand..i SHOULD of gottin beat..to help your decision..what would you's do in this situation..no beeps or anything just side by side and the other dude floors it, you floor and your side by side then you pull a tad and he lets off..outcome=..?
