i was washing my car the other day and theres a bball court across from my house and a kid that lives up the street from me was over there playing and i yelled over to him to go and get his mommys cobra out for me to race(not sure what year but its a 96-98 cobra wit the 4.6L), its old and beat up and he thinks its like the fastest thing in the world, but neways... he said that thing will smoke me by like 2 cars(never got a chance to race, i want too though) and his buddy pulls up in his GAYGAYGAY SSR, i hate those things, there uglier than than those aztecs that pontiac put out, and he goes why dont u race that, that thing has 300hp, itll kill u and that big wing u got, so basically i got pissed and tomorrow i race him on this long flat road out in front of my house, all i have done is Fujita...

Anyone have any run ins with those SSR's to let me know what im up against? The same thing wit the cobra?

If its 300hp, it may be the 2003-2004 engine model, which "Performance was not spectacular at 7.7 s to 60 mph with a 15.9 s/86.4 mph quarter mile run" --Wikipedia...

If thats the case, you'll kick his ass. Better pray its the 03-04 model.

 

The 2005 SSR does the same 0-60 in a quick 5.5 seconds, quicker than the SRT-4, Audi TT, or Cobalt SS.

My father gets a company car every three months, he works for GM. We have had 4 different SSR's. We had a yellow 6 spd it was an 05. That thing would give my stg2 cobalt a run for its money in the 1/4

 

ive seen one with a turbo and other **** on it pushing over 5oohp

 

there rated at a stock 1/4 mile time of 14.1...i say theres a chance you could get him..the reace should go like this (if you both can drive good)

he should take you off the line RWD is good for that
he should have you at the 1/8 mile
then you should edge him out in the end

but thats how it should work if everything went perfectly according to statistics and physics...not how things work in the real world

if its a 05 i think the ssr will take him. if he can beat the 400 hp then he can beat or stay up with the corvette. but if its the smaller engine then he has a chance. what are you mods?

thank you. the 5.3 ssr's are turds when stock. they run about the same as any truck with a 5.3, but just a little quicker. i dunno about a stock cobalt, but i think it could hang pretty well. if its an ls2 ssr, you're done.

A neon SRT-4 does it in 5.3 ('04, '05)

 

u should be careful running your mouth. the cobra and the ssr(as long as its 04+) should be able to handle you pretty easily if they can drive.
ssr- 0-60=5.5 1/4mi=14.1
96-98 cobra- 0-60=5.2 1/4mi=14.0
cobalt ss/sc- 0-60=6.1 1/4mi=14.4

 

well the cobra is a POS, like dents and the kid used to steal when his mom was sleeping at night and just beat the living **** out of it, so its def not running those numbers nemore....

 

I have had a "run" with an 05-06 SSR. Basically we were dead even from a roll to 95MPH. I am stock.

i bet both walked all over him. You don't run your mouth like that to cars that are faster than yours hahahahha (unless the ssr was an 03). For a second when i saw someone say, "the ssr and the cobra _____ unless it's an 04," i thought the cobra was an 04. BAHA that would have been ******* hillarious if you were running your mouth to an 04 cobra lol.

 

well first of all....i didnt run my mouth off to the SSR, and im in love 03-04 cobra, honestly the sickest cars out there, and im not that dumb, and the outcome is..... HE NEVER SHOWEDDD UPPPP.....*****...i asked my buddy why he didnt show up, and he said "he didnt wanna waste gas" on the race wit me, and by the way it was an 03, but he did race and lose to my buddy in his stock 06 GTI that i beat by a car...so maybe that has something to do wit it but i dunno....i havent seen him around but when i do im gunna try and get him mad enough to race me..

 

that 03 will make you look stupid, the SSR if its a LS2 SSR will give you a run for your money and will probably take you on the top end. but even with my mods, im weary of loosing to 03-04 cobras. i beat a stock one before my pulley swap but i was spraying the bejesus out of my car. and i finished a nose ahead, that was it!

The 03's are extremely rare. Only a handful out there..the 04's are a little more common, still very rare though. GM didnt really care about marketing them until 05-06..and they still sold poorly and were discontinued.
