Me vs. Z28

So I'm very impressed with my Cobalt now, no I did not win though...

Me: 2008 Cobalt 2.4L (mods in sig) Also had my friend with me so that was an extra 150lbs or so.

Camaro Z28: Unknown mods, looked and sounded pretty stock but he did have tint all around.

Story:

I was sitting at a red light and as soon as it turned green the Z28 (last production model so 99-02?) passed me on the left (one way street, he was easily doing 30 and I was coming from a dig) so I floored it. Just before I got to his back bumper (at about 35-40) he floored as well and shot a little smoke out the exhaust. I inched a little on him until I hit 3rd gear at about 58-63 and then he started inching away. I let off at about 83 and he had pulled maybe 3/4-a whole car from where we started. I know many of you do not condone street racing but there was no traffic around us nor any pedestrians. I am extremely proud of my Balt inching on the Z28 in 2nd gear. I'd love to run the guy again after I get a tune but I didn't get to talk to him unfortunately.

well i know a stock LS1 would run on a 2.4 easily so it had to be a crappy driver or v6.

and years go as such 98-02 are ls1 and 93-97 have Lt1

only real major difference in body is headlights and grill i think.

either way good run bud

prob a v6 with z28 badges

you will know it when an ls1 z28 jumps on it next to you.

jomama is right, the 93-97 z28's were identical from the pillar back, the only diff is the headlights, exteriorwise.

under the hood is a diff story

There are more than a few V6's with 2 pipes.

If it was a V6 the LE5 would have stomped him...LE5's aren't really that slow.

I played with one on the high way not to long ago, and was impressed

Yeah but if it was a V8 he would have gotten stomped if the other guy was racing.

If the guy was going all out yes.

I didn't have to down shift to keep up with the SS/NA I played with and once I did it was rape, but seriously they aren't as slow as people think they are.

SS/SC's are rather slow stock IMO and look at the whp diff compared to a 2.4.

Slow and fast are always relative comparisons. For instance, to some a 2.4 is slow, and to others, it's fast.

To the owner of an LS1 Camaro, a bolt-on 2.4 is SLOW.

I like to define them as quick.

I still think my old one was quick, even compared to the TC.

The TC is so smooth it doesn't feel fast until you look at the speedo

Might have a little to do with having double the whp stock for stock.

It was definitely a V8. Had the stock exhaust and I definitely know what a V8 sounds like over a V6.

Had the stock exhaust off a Z28, the kind of rectangular dual exhaust tips.

Yea, I know a guy who went to high school with me who threw an exhaust on his V-6 and thought he was the hottest thing. The Camaro I raced was louder and deeper then his and I'm pretty sure it was stock exhaust?

A LT1 Z28 in good shape is still a drivers race for a SS/SC stock for stock.

It was definitely not a V6. I owned V8 vehicles before my Balt, definitely can hear the difference.

I wouldn't say the car was in great shape. It wasn't horribly abused either though. No visible rust and the tint wasn't purple like most around here lol. I also wouldn't say I'm a whole lot slower then a stock SS S/C. If it weren't for my damn auto crap shift it would have been a lot closer. Of course, I can't say if he was all the way on it for sure or not, I assume so considering that he blew a little smoke out his exhaust when he got on it.
