metro goes down hard
Where the hell in Florida are you. I have multiple friends down here that have been caught street racing. One has been caught 2 or 3 times. All that happened was he lost his license for 2 years i think it was on his last time being caught. He never had his car crushed. Not saying that it doesn't happen, but down here where I live I haven't heard of it happening to anybody.

Florida is one of the few places with laws targeting street racing, but conviction is difficult because prosecutors must prove there was competition, says Miller, the Florida trooper.
Many cases are prosecuted under reckless driving or speeding statutes, experts say, and that makes tracking illegal street racing difficult.
It also makes finding appropriate deterrents difficult.
and also don't forget how the Florida Street Racing Law Was Found Unconstitutional
It's all over the local forums and was on the news. Due to the vagueness of sunny Florida's laws that prohibit street racing, and some dude in a Corvette taking his "Unauthorized Speed Contest" ticket to court, the statute has been found to be unconstitutional.

The worst they can charge you for now is Reckless Driving. Still bad but nowhere NEAR the penalties for Drag Racing.
Also note that the Drag Racing penalties are far more severe than DUI penalties, despite the fact that DUI's kill 2500 people a year here, whereas street racing claims less than 1% of that figure.
The statute is so vague that virtually any car speeding or even accelerating from a traffic light next to another car could be charged with street racing.

But Even if what you say is true, I'd like to keep it at the track and I would hope you agree on that.
I didn't find it hilarious, because the owner of the metro could have been seriously hurt. I know that is a chance you take when you street race and it happens, but if your gonna race on the street be as safe as possible don't race in traffic or where a car could pull out without you having enough time to stop or where the road isn't wide enough, etc. I am glad the op did the right thing and checked on him before leaving and anyone who says they would have done anymore than check on the person and call and ambulance if he was hurt is lying, because then you run the risk of yourself getting in trouble for doing something illegal.

Yeah that night was kinda crazy John.
It was great that they didn't check my car but at the same time you think as you line up with some guy you don't know.
"What is this guys an idiot and blows up the car? I'm only 10 feet away."
So like I've said before.
Everything has a good and a bad side.
All you can do is look at the situation and make your own descion.

So your saying when racing on a track where if you crash you are in a controlled environment is as dangerous as racing on the street where you could take an innocent life with you if you crash.
So explain to me how dangerous is the track again man.
So explain to me how dangerous is the track again man.
Please explain how I would do take an innocent life on the street if I am racing on a back road at midnight-2am that maybe 10 cars come down a week, especially when the 1/4 is marked off with white spray paint and they throw a flare at the end and there are no side streets at all for at least 1/2 a mile and a car is over a mile down the road with a nextel beeping back and forth to tell you if its clear before you go. You can take a life on the strip that came to do it legally and lined up next to someone that was drinking all night loses control and hits the other car and kills the driver. At that track they didn't make you roll down your windows or ever smell your breathe. In fact I saw someone drinking oj with vodka that was in an oj bottle that got at least 4 passes that night. Fact is racing is never safe at the track or on the street at anytime someone could lose control and hit the other driver and kill them, its doesn't matter how much you check a cars mechanical ability's if the person in the car can't operate it correctly.
Ummm,
You can take an innocent life at a track to.
Did you go to the Bradenton Track Feb. 1st?
I had some concerns but went ahead and raced.
There was no car inspection. People we drinking and driving. One guy went down the 1/4 with a beer bottle in his lap.
So to elaporate Danger is danger.
I could die from losing my footing and failing the wrong way.
Every day you wake up you take the risk of death.
No one knows when they're going to die. So if you don't enjoy life cuz "You might die" whats the point.
As long as you don't endanger others, ie. racing thru traffic and areas that have high traffic flow or blind spots for people to pull out then you as to say from another member:
Live life for the moment and when your dead you'll know you died for doing what you did with a smile.

being that we knew he was okay and the fact that he was blaming the other driver for losing control of a Geo made it funny to me.
maybe i'm just insensitive, oh well
this is true, I don't necessarily care if someone injures themselves doing something they've chosen to do though. its when they hurt other innocent people that it grabs my attention...

It's in Bradenton of SR-64 over near Tampa about a hour drive for us so two hours for you.

I'm with ninja and sk8er on this. It reminds me of 'worlds most dangerous animals' i was watching the other day, I kept busting when people got attacked, chased and trampled by bulls or elephants. Say what you will about my attitude, but if you get into a ring with an animal , theres only 1 of 2 things that are gonna happen: 1-he plays with you and you have a good time or 2- he rams the **** outta you. then bites you and you dont have a good time.
Just like this case, you race and one of two things'll happen: 1- it goes well or 2-it doesn't. Nobody can really be suprised by this.
If you go out looking for trouble, you'll eventually find it.
