you should be able to take him I know I have beat one that was modded as well (he had the basic upgrades intake exhaust bov) it just depends on your skill and the launch

From a dig the WRX will eat you alive, dending the ability of your friend that is. From a roll it will be close, I think you may be able to edge him though.
I am thinking his HP claim is a little extreme. Those cars have a lot of drivetrain lose due to the AWD and for him to be putting that much to the wheels would mean some fairly serious mods.

You will destroy him from a roll. BAD. From a dig he will only be like 2 cars and you will catch up quick at about 100 mph and you should take him. We will see.
I have raced tons of WRX's all the bolt ons possible without swappin the turbo.

It totally depends on how well both of you can drive. Even a stock WRX could hold off a Cobalt to about 95mph if driven well (~14.5@95), and this guy has 40-50whp MORE than stock (180 vs. 230-240).
Assuming he really has that kind of power and can drive decent, you won't catch him from a dig for a LONG time, but it could be close from a roll. A stock WRX you would walk, but I don't think everyone realizes that if he really has 230-240whp, that he's already lost what he's going to lose through the drivetrain, and he is making more power with just a little more weight.
Either way, your best bet is from a roll, but if he really has the power he says he has, it's not going to be the walk in the park that some might think.
Good Luck.

He aint making that power with those bolt ons...not on stock boost. You will walk him from a roll and catch him around 100 from a dig. Get video of it or it's useless.

i think if you were truly racing the 1/4 he'd beat you like everytime...from a roll you'll take him (most likely) at about 100mph maybe even 80ish....i know from experience as a former wrx owner top end sucks ass....

He could get the car close to those numbers if he had a 3 inch turbo back and a tune. The other mods he's running don't really do that much for power, in fact, an environmental BOV will rob HP.
In any case it would be close from a roll, so give it a shot, and just be careful out there.
See link below for Cobb Stage 2 (turbo back and tune) dyno numbers:

I was told by an STi owner that from a dig that AWD cars are hard to launch, but I've also been told that they're great to launch cause they have 4 tires launching the car forward. At anyrate I think the driver's ability is probably what's most important. Just out of curiosity, what do you SS/SC guys normally launch at? I'm in a Redline and in all honesty I'm not exactly sure that the transmission on this thing is bullet proof so I try to launch around 2-3K if that much. I've tried launching at higher RPMs on a few occassions and get that nasty, "engine is screaming, car isn't going, smells like burnt clutch" crap.

you will win from a roll without question....awd has about 22% drivetrain loss to your 12% ..wrx has a **** load of rolling mass or parasitic loss AKA drivetrain loss ..and 20hp is not enough to compensate the difference and dont forget your 2900lbs to its 3300-3400 lbs....every 100lbs is about a tenth in the quarter!!! this is just my 02$...good luck and dont worry .plant your left foot and dont lift it till top of 4th....ohhh yeah and shift at 6200 in first 6300 in 2nd 3rd and let out around the time you feel a little studder in fourth around 6500...LOL

Yeah my Vid is back! All we could see on that WRX was exhaust, don't know about anything else. Take a look at the trap speeds. I had a full 4 mph on him at the traps. According to my slip we were pretty much dead even at 1000'. (12.433 vs. 12.411)
I will say this every time. Do it for fun and nothing more. Not money or bragging rights, but fun. Just be safe about it. There is a lot that can go wrong if you do it on the street, so I suggest a track.

I haven't been winning my races but I'm staying a hell of a lot closer than these people would like or exspect. Even get compliments for doing so well. When summer time hits get some radials. It the great "equalizer" for Fwd cars.
