Need some help on launching
Need some help on launching
So im shitty at launching my car from a stop and when ever i race from a stop the person im racing always takes off then here i come blazing past them any suggestions?
practice the launch and just get that quick .5 second bark off of your tires without anyone racing you its hard but you learn your car and you know that the street, weather, tire, heat, anything will affect it
if launching is what you mean then what I can offer you is a good way to launch; If on city/highway streets the pavement is diffrent from the 1/4 mile track. On streets; you want to sit at around 2400-2800 RPM range with the clutch in enough to barely hold the car still, and on green let out and give 1/2 throttle not full, never full with this car youll hop like a jack rabbit. Once you get moving with little spinning and still in 1st gear, you give 3/4 throttle then full throttle going into 2nd, and youll find yourself hooking up easier and with little to no wheel hop, maybe some chirps thats it. On the 1/4 mile track; you will repeat this process at a 2000 - 2400 RPM range. GL!
Depending on your car will depend on how much you need to drag the clutch and what RPM you should launch at. My buddies 2.2 needs to be launched at damn near red line to get his 60' into the low 2.2 range. Now on the other hand, my buddies 2.4 needs be launched around 3.5-4k to hit 2.2-2.1 60'.
Ideally you should launch at your peak tq, if you happen to know where that is in your power band. Hold it steady at your peak tq and begin to release the clutch. Now this whole motion will take less then a .5 second if you do it properly. Release the clutch just enough to get the tires to spin, almost like you're preloading it before you are ready to leave line. Why do this? So you don't snap an axle. Next release the clutch some more so its half way between fully grabbed and fully released. Once you have got a decent roll going, progressively release the clutch more and more until the speed you have obtained is = the speed you would be going in 1st gear without slipping the clutch.
If you launch higher or lower then your peak torque, you'll most likely end up bogging off the line or not get the lowest 60' possible. Remember, torque gets you off the line, not horsepower. If you ride the clutch past that MPH you'll be riding the clutch to long and killing your 60'. Riding the clutch less then that will cause you to bog. If you don't preload the clutch you'll spin, wheel hop, or snap an axle. If you don't release to that half way point, you'll be burning up the clutch. If you don't progressively release the clutch once you get going it'll take you longer to accelerate, and again burn your clutch.
Practice makes perfect.
EDIT: I have taught numerous people how to launch there cars. My techniques do work.

cool sounds resonable i lauch at 2x100 or 1.5x100 wich so far i found to sort of work to get me off the line quick but the prob is that i dont know how long to keep it in 1st gear since its to short so i either shift it to early or to late if i can see a vid of someone launching on a ss/sc thats all i need and i should pick it up quick the same way i learn to drive manual lol
is it possible for someone to post up a video of them launching on an ss/sc preferably stock or stage2 lol that way i see what im doin wrong lol thanks
