new gti... that fast?

anyone actually raced the new gti's? i kinda observe the forums over there and it seems like most of those guys are really misinformed(magazine stats). it doesnt sound like any of them have raced experienced SS drivers either. we all know that if you arent experienced on a SS that its not gonna be that great, sorta like most cars. all the guys over there talk about pulling hard on the SS, never losing from what i have seen in the threads. so, are these cars really that fast? i havent raced one so im not gonna say anything about them. one guy even said that a magazine told him that the gti runs a 14.4 and the SS runs a 15.1. id like to take that magazine and slap the author with it.

the new gti mkvs are pretty fast my 2 of my buddies have them. one is stick and the other is the automatic. the automatics in them are faster stock they shift in millaseconds. you have to hear one with exuast it sonds so dam awsome. well to get to the point stock for stock when i raced my buddie with the auto gti. form a dead stop it would be even till about 70 mph. but form a roll of like 40 i could pull away pretty good. now he would beat the stick one by about a car and a half. now i have stage 2 and cold air intake. and he has full exuast turbo back and a stage 2 tune and spacer. form 40 roll i put like 4 car lengs on him up to llike 125. but that car is fast with the tune and exuast.

first car i ever got to race in my stock ss/sc (less than 1k on the clock) and it was a pretty one sided battle.
sounded like he had a little bit done with it too.

2nd gear and 3rd gear pulls and it was instant 1 car and continued to pull.

hmmm i guess it just depends on whether you go from a stop or a roll. seems like from their site that they dont hang with 350z's, which we do, so i can only assume that we are quicker. i only say this cause some of them make comments like, "i hear the SS can hang with srt-4's and 350z's."

Alot of people race the 2.4's and think they are the 2.0's. I have been waiting to race one. I challenged a member on another forum who had stage 2 and an exhaust and he just flat out said id win.

I also race the new gtis often. My friend Nick has one and were very even. He has a chip and I have a CAI. It seems to me it is a drivers race. The better launch = the win Best 1/4th time for me without intake was 14.2 but I run 14.5-14.4 consistantly.

P.S. I'm talking about the Hatch looking turbo gti 2006?

I raced one at the track. I'm stock and so was he and he lost by .9 of a sec. I ran a 14.4, he was a good driver to. I asked if he wanted to run my car so I could see what the GTI felt like but he had to leave all the sudden.

chips are supposed to make a big difference on those cars. if all you have is an intake and yall are even then i would say that the SS holds its own against even modded GTI's

nice quick car but slower than an SS stock for stock. Like most times with equal drivers it comes down to HP:weight ratio, the GTI averages between 180-190 whp while weighing in between 3100-3300 lbs. But it would only take minor mods to get the cars down into the low 14's high 13's.

I drove one of the new GTI's and was impressed. It had a lot of power, and the turbo lag was very minimal. It pulled REALLY hard in second, but first had some wheel hop/traction problems, as most stock forced induction FWDs do. I dont really like the looks of the Recaro seats they used. They remind me of a girl scout uniform.

not really that fast from a roll. never raced from a dig, due to not coming up on a red light with him. we are definitly faster from a roll, and probably from a dig with a good driver. (not me ). its simple power to weight ratios though.. we have more and weigh less

The new one actually uses the 2.0t that VW spreads across a lot of its lineup. From what I understand, it's about a .1 or .2 behind the SS/SC in the 1/4. Definitely a close race. The DSG is sick, too...I want one. (the gearbox, that is. not the car. )

Do you have a link? I'd like to read about them in all honesty. You can post our 1/4 mile list over there to compare. From what I've heard, it's a fairly close race, but don't they cost $30K?
