SS/TC vs. VW GLI "R"

So I'm heading home from Harbor Frieght (amazing place if you've never been) in some medium traffic. Its not stop and go but its enough to almost annoy me. I am minding my own business, rocking to some metal and I pass by this blue ~2009ish VW GLI. Well he apparently doesn't like to be driven past so he steps on it and whizzes past me. I'm all for a good run but there is just too much traffic so I just give him the and keep rockin' out.

We keep driving and I notice him slow down. I get next to him as traffic is moving and he does it again, smashes the pedal and takes off. I still don't bite. There's just too much traffic. So I change lanes into a faster flowing lane and he gets stuck in the much slower lane. I get a good 1/4 mile ahead of him. As I'm driving, I see in my rear view he's weaving in and out of traffic to try and catch up to me. He spends the next 2 miles cutting people off to catch up to me. Finally I just say whatever and let him get in front of me and then I ride his ass a little.

We get to a stop light. I am right behind im in the lane and I notice on his trunk there is an "R" badge. Probably from the R32 b/c I know there aint no GLI-R This is gonna be good... The light turns green and he punches it. There's no traffic ahead of us so I bite. I punch it. Immediately I change lanes after we pass the people next to us at the stop light so I can get next to him. Just as I hit 3rd gear, he's already at my bumper and losing ground FAST. I wind 3rd out and look back again.... Apparently "R" stands for RICER b/c this asshat SLAMMED on his brakes after I drove right past him and quickly got into a left turn lane and busted a "U" and took off!! I didn't even get a chance to give him the smart ass : or anything!!

I guess he thought his GLI "R" was tough ****. Haha! I wish I had video of this one so bad...

I'm guessing he probably had a ECU flash or something b/c it didn't seem like a 200hp car. It was pretty quick for what it was. APR makes flashes for the GLI right?

Haha. Yeah, all I know is that the exhaust sounded and looked stock so it may have been at least tuned.

It coulda been the only GLI "R" in the USA. Haha!

They do sell "F-line" stuff for the lexus is series. Maybe he put them on after an exhaust install or something.

Now to the GLI, they are a 2.0 turbo right? Apparently the 2012 will come with the R32 v-6 motor... so beating them might be a thing of the past if they also get the AWD of the R32 as well. Those motors with forced induction are pretty beastly.

There's APR, Revo... all kind of irrelevant. The GTI, GLI sucks. I know, I have one... so many problems I'm on a first name basis with the guys in the service department and the shuttle driver doesn't need directions to get me to work... he just says "same place?" when I get in the van. That is why I'm on here, to research the SS so I know what I'm getting myself into when I trade in that piece of crap 06 GLI for an SS or Redline... The VW's have the K03 turbo, connecting rods that can't handle more than about 320whp, pre-08's need a stronger fuel pump to go to stage 2 (maybe it was 2+). I remember one guy had a stage 2+ tune, intake, full exhaust, meth injection, upgraded intercooler, fuel pump... maxing out the stock turbo and he was at about 280whp. It'll scoot but from what I've been reading on the SS/TC, the VW's are no match.

Yes, they are 2.0 turbo. Where did you read it'll get the R32 driveline and a v6?

I'll try to find the link... It was probably jalopnik or leftlanenews or something. All accounts now say it won't happen, but I still maintain hope cuz I really like the 3.2v6 and all wheel drive of the r32. They will still have an optional awd from my understanding. Should be a cool little ride. If the past is any representation of hte future though, it won't be nearly as fast as a sti or evo or even a css for that matter. but the germans like the awd yes

EDIT: Found it it was last November... ugh o well here is the link... too bad it wont happen. Maybe VW will do it later on.

The DSG gearbox on those things is legit too. I wouldn't mind having one. But my next car will either be an Audi RS4 or a BMW M3.
