SS vs eclipse

My buddy has a 97 eclipse spyder. He says he'd smoke me, but there is no way to tell because were both in the middle east with our cars parked in the states. does anyone know what kind of hp they produce? Has anyone raced one yet? What do you think?

You would eat that spyder alive. Not even a close matchup.

raced one the other day (GS-T) and smoked it hardcore dude ... couldn't tell you the year but it was a late 90's model ... the only real eclipse to be careful around is the tuned up late model GS-X cus I have a buddy that has one and its tuned pretty sweet and its insanely fast.

wait is the spyder and the GS-T the same, b/c if it is a regular eclipse with no turbo its going to be no race, youll put bus lengths on him instantly.

If its a GS-T he will give you a little bit of a run, but you will still pull, my freind has one, so i know

The GS-T came in a hard top and a spyder version as did the GS. Many DSM's take off the RS GS or even GS-T stickers making them hard to identify. The stock turbo is easy to hear even if they aren't driving hard at all. Seriously you wouldn't lose the race to a stock for stock GS-T unless you burn your wheels and can't shift and weigh 700 pounds. But a GS-X again is a car not to be taken lightly.

Now a base model or SL 3000GT is a different story. Faster than a stock GS-T they can give you some comp if you are too cocky. I used to own a Base 3000GT (95) with intake and custom exhaust and I believe I was in the mid 15's although never tested at the track. If you act up and don't take em seriously they can pull on you even if you will catch them in the high end (heavy cars). The VR-4 is insane and the 99 was a stock 13.6 1/4 mile all wheel drive twin turbo monster. The second and third gen's (94-98) were basically the same only slower (mid 14's). Now the first gen's were riddled with problems and even being twin turbo all wheel drive didn't help so beating one of those is not much of a chore as I beat one in my base 3000gt (have my girlfriend and lots of other friends to vouch for that).

Watch out for some gst's. There is a guy where i live, that has had his turbo rebuild, w/ bov, cai.exhaust, and it is really fast. I have been trying to race him but never see him. If i find him i will post back. Also the talon tsi's are hella quick even stock.

You would SMOKE him... from those posted numbers for the Spyder we got about 2 seconds on that car from 0-60 i hate bragging but our cars pack a nice little punch.. they definately are nothin to mess with

yeah but like all the old all wheel drive mitsu's from that age (other than the 99 vr-4) they have an issue with launching because to high of a lauch will destory the car and too low will bog down the engine. My friend tries his hardest to baby the launch which normally means a slower launch but with all wheel drive they can get on it and stay wot without traction issues. If you come up to a gs-x just be sure you don't crap your launch and you should win (stock for stock)

A friend has a Spyder GS-T with a big 16G running 20 pounds of boost, and me and him are a pretty good race. DSM's are too easy to modify, and just by looking at one you cant tell whats done to it. Your friend is probably playing you.

ok, you guys are killing me. just because it is a gs-t doesn't mean it's slow because it isn't a gsx. a gs-t is in fact faster than a gsx from a roll stock for stock. if you were to race a mildly modded gs-t, whether it be a spyder or not, it would be a pretty close race. but even a BPU gs-t would rip a ss s/c a new *******. it all depends on what is done and how it is tuned. i know with an APEXI downpipe, HKS FCD, and Holley fuel pump the 1g eclipses could reach 290 AWHP. imagine what a 2g would reach with those simple mods. those mods only cost $450. i would imagine a 2g would put down something close to 320 fwhp and that is underestimating it. so for all you guys to keep saying they are nothing and you know cause your friend has one and you smoked it, you guys haven't raced anyone with a dsm that knows what they are doing with it.

Now i admire your cars a lot and i'm glad chevy has stepped up to the plate with a new platform. but it is going to be a while before you guys have a good strong platform that has a long history of proven performance before you can go off saying things about dsms like you have. i'm sorry to burst your bubble, but as a long time dsm enthusiast and builder, the dsm engine(4g63T) is still around and will be for a very long time. notice the evo still uses the same engine.

From what I'm reading (since both cars are stock) it sounds like I would win pretty easily.

u would definately beat it. I raced a GS-T about 3 weeks ago and beat it. He had a body kit, rims was lowered, and a loud blow off valve. He was alone and i had a friend with me. we raced at about 70mph up and i whooped him. After that, he turned off the highway and my fried yelled ***** and he just gave me a thumbs down and shook his head i just laughed. I also raced a twin turbo audi s6. 70mph to 130mph. He got up next to me and floored it, he never gained an inch on me and when we got off the gas he was at my back bumper next to me. I have a black stock SS and lovin it
