SS vs. Mustang GT
SS vs. Mustang GT
I really didn't want to race considering my car isn't broken in yet, I have about 300 miles on it. This 2000+ Mustang GT (im thinking 03 or 04, it had the bigger scoop on it) was egging me on. He had a 5spd, I could hear him shifting, and at least some kind of aftermarket exhaust, it was loud. He would speed up, slow down, speed up constantly trying to get me to race, at one point he laughed and said "Nice wing"
I said fkit, dropped down to 2nd (about 40mph) got right next to him, we took off at the same time, I can't believe it, but I was walking him. Shifted to 3rd, kept on pulling away. I shut down at about 75 or so and I had about a 3 car gap.
I was real surprised I walked him like I did, and there isn't much room for driver error with a 2nd gear roll

Nice kill
Seems like a lot of guys on here have had run-ins with 99-04 Mustang GT's. Some lose by a car or two, some win by a car or two. With two equally skilled drivers, the GT is about a 1/2 second faster in the 1/4 mile - but as they always say, anything can happen on the street
When you jumped on it in 2nd, did the GT driver realize you were going?? Or did he see you take off and then downshift and go?? Just curious, because if you got the jump I could easily see you putting 3 cars on him prety quickly, especially if he didn't downshift to 2nd.

If you look at mph, the two cars probably have similiar trap speeds. So from a roll this can definately happen. FWD cars with power are had to launch and get good 60ft times where that's the spot the GT would have the advantage!

I had a 2003 GT, the SOHC 4.6 is maxed and you need serious $$$ to make very little HP.
A 1999-2004 GT will hook better but then it's all Cobalt. Not many GT's will trap 98mph+ either unless they have a couple bolt-on's.
Alot of my friends have GT's (1 Bullitt) and I have killed them all. Brett has drag radials on his so I wouldn't dare race him from a stop but from a roll the $1000+ he has in mods makes us about even.

Codyss, I am not sure you consider that a GT is maxed and need money to make great horsepower.... my buddy James owned a 2000 Mustang Six Cylinder with bolts made 50HP over stock, he owned a 2003 Mustang GT with Mac cold air, Dynomax exhaust, 4.10 gears, Nitto front tires and BF Drag radials in the back, bigger TB and underdrive pulley all for about $2,000 and was hitting mid 13's all day long almost trapping a couple of 13.4's.
I think your wrong about them getting good power. They can achieve good power with just a few mods. Believeable in your Camaro SS but not in your Cobalt SS if they are modded good.

did the same thign to a mustang GT last night as well same kind of thing tryed to get me to race him hept riding my ass pass me just getting on my back so finaly i was like **** it dont want to play any more games waited for him to get even with me and just took off. Same as you was shocked that i took him by 2 maybe 3 car lenght got to love hwy driivng at 1am haha
I raced my friends GT from work. It was a 98 or 99. I didn't launch well from a dead stop and he got about a car and a half lead on me. Held with him that same distance up until we stopped, he won easily. We did a 15 mph roll a few nights later and I walked him by about 1-2 cars. I had to crane my head back to see where he'd gone. We also did a 40 mph roll. I said go by accident and he beat me to the pedal, but I still managed to pass him easily. I'm wondering with a better launch if it would be a pretty even race from a stop. Who knows.
With stock Intake, Heads and Cams the SOHC 4.6 is maxed.
Change a combination of those parts and it's a differnt story.
But by the numbers:
- Larger upper intake plenum $200 + 5-9hp
- Cat-Back Exhaust $200-800 + 2-3hp
- Cold Air Intake $100-300 + 3-5hp

Sorry your friend and you are BS'ers.
I understand though, I felt the same way when I had my 2003 GT and got walked by a couple 4 cylinders too.
Like I said go talk your BS on Stangnet, you will get the same response.

Why does eveyone feel the need to come here and pick on Cobalt SS owners/drivers?
95% of them would get there ass handed to them by a CSS, the other 5% obviously being modded SRT-4's and such. But hey can't win them all.
