That all depends on what year his Z28 is. If it's 1997 or earlier (LT1 engine), it's gonna be a great race. If it's 1998 or later (LS1 engine), he's gonna have a slight advantage. If you're gonna race a Camaro with an LS1, either do it on a course with some curves, or modify your car. A psi-fi kit would probably make it an even drag race.

LS1 is a tough engine, especially if he has it paired up with the T56 Six-speed tranny, you would be pretty hard pressed to keep up. anything pre 97, as long as he dosent have extensive mods, you should be able to at least hang.

If it's 98 or newer, you're gonna be out of luck. My budy Eric has a 98 Z28 6-spd bone stock. We took it against my 06 SS/SC at the track. Him = 13.6, Me = 14.6. Close ... kind of. We swapped cars and ran almost identical times. Have fun, but I wouldn't advise putting any money on it.

Even with the psi-fi kit you probably still will be slower than the ls1. An lt1 however would be a good race.

Stock VS Stock a 1993-1997 LT1 powered F-Body is a good race for the SS/SC.

As for a 1998-2002 LS1 F-Body a SS/SC doesn't stand a chance.

I have a 2002 Camaro SS sitting beside my SS/SC. In 100% stock form it went 12.98@108mph with many low 13's now with a " couple " mods and DR's I am in the low 12's driving it nice.

Nothing really scares me unless I hear the whine of a modded 03/04 Cobra. Otherwise the LS1 F-Body is a monster from a dig or a roll.

After all of that being said like any car it is only as fast as the drive can make it. I have seen many cocky high school kids run low 14's.

I raced an LT1 95 Camaro, he had just exhaust and I had exhaust and intake. I lost my a car length. It was performed on a 20mph roll.

LT1 is more of a turd on the roll then it is from a DIG. A converter could make it a good rolling car but stock no.

ok all i kno about his z28 is that its anto tranny and its the old body style the style before the one that they had when they quit makeing it...i dont kno the year just the look of the style. his car is bone stock and from going out in his car a few times my ss feels faster but i just wanted to kno if i could take him or not.

i wanna race him from like a 40roll cuz i think the rwd facter will give him the jump from a dig.

I have had 3 LT1 F-Bodies and from a low MPH roll they are not " turds " in Auto or T-56 form.

To many people assume all 3rd Gen F-Bodies are slow. A 1990-1992 350TPI Auto or 305TPI G92 could easily run low 14's bone stock.

I have had two 305TPI IROC's, one 350TPI IROC, three LT1's and two LS1's

You must have had the fastest factory freaks ever if you could get a stock L98 to run a low 14 quarter, much less the 5 liter cars.

Where's that BS flag at.....?

On the way home from picking up my redline, my g/f and I did a quick in town romp. She was in my auto 96 Z28 (LT1). She got me off the line by a couple of car lengths and we took it up to about 65 mph or so. I held steady with her after the launch, probably would have gained a little on the top end where the LT1 runs outta breath.

I own a 94 Z28, it's a auto, it's got a K&N CAI and full exhaust, I would put anything on it that it will put at least a full car on any cobalt SS S/c. I have never brought it to the track though, let me tell you this, that LT 1 sure does come alive when you put her to the boards!!! Still love the Cobalt SS S/c though!!!

Like everyone has stated, SS/SC stands no chance against an LS1. From a 35-45 mph roll it would be a good race against an LT1.

SS/SC sucks from a 20 mph roll. That's right in between 1st and 2nd gear. The ss/sc loves 40 mph in 2nd though.
