stage 2 ss vs stock ss

well i was driving home tonight and i passed by a car who honked at me so i went back and parked next to him. im a stock 05 ss s.c and hes got a black 06 s.c with stage 2 and what sounds like an intake as well cause i could hear that **** whine from 3 cars ahead while i was gettin on it, sounded sick. well were both from the area (long island) im from east meadow and hes from huntington. we took 3 runs to see how stock fairs up against stage 2 w/intake. first was a 40 roll, both nailed it and suprisingly he walked me by only 3 cars by around 110. dont get me wrong i got **** on lol but with all the noise GM is makin about these kits i thought he would have had more on me but w.e. well the second one was from a dig, i got a good launch and pulled on him rite off the line and he slowly started creapin up to me all the way up to 120mph where we were dead even and we had to shut down cause of a turn. the 3rd one was another roll from a 30 where he pulled on me a little less than the first one, this one only about 2- maybe 2.5 cars by 110mph (i prob did a litte better this time cause his 7k redline puts him a little lower in the powerband at 30mph). Afterward he told me that sometimes his clutch slips a little bit even when he was stock so maybe thats y he didnt rip me all the way, but idk cause he didnt say it did it this time . All in all it was a good night, good guy, i just wanna see if i can find him on here or somethin to ask him where he got his stage 2 cause hes close to me and i cant find one for my car (back order) and what brand intake hes got cause it whined like a ****. If n e one knows about a black ss s.c from huntington ny let me know im tryin to track him down, thanks.

7k redline puts him a little lower in the powerband at 30mph).
I dont believe this statement to be true. I have stage 1, and from a 40 roll I still am at 4000 RPM's, the only thing that increased was the max speed of that gear. So I may have used to shift out of second at 65 I now can go up to 70 or what ever.

I have stage 2 ordered, and it will most likely be here this week. I will install it and race my brothers Stage 1 redline. We are neck and neck now, so this will show the diff of stage 1 vs stage 2. Ill make sure we get a video of it.

the 7k redline wouldnt affect 1st gear because you havent shifted yet, unless you go above 6500rpms. once your in second, there will be a little difference because your in a different gear ratio. that was a horrible way to explain it but it does make sense if you think about it, but it mite also explain why i ripped him from a dig but he still caught me, also (not bragging what so ever) i might have been a better driver than him

The gear ratios are the same...and as long as you're not under say...3k rpm, the powerband is only stronger. (can't recall the dyno shot, but if I remember the stg2+CAI was like 200+ tq from 3k to 6500) The 7k redline let's you achieve a higher top speed in each gear, though. Also I think most of the people who have gotten stage 2 have said it does wonders for the 1-2 shift.

I really think you got a better launch than him. I would think the cars would be neck and neck through 1st for the most part, then after that first shift the stage 2 would start to run away.

Just speculation...if I'm wrong, oh well.

I'm starting to think stage 2 isn't worth it....It seems like it should be much faster than what it is.

Stage 2 is totaly worth it. I have had mine for over a week now and am impressed with the gains. I raced my friend with a RSX type S before install and I beat him but not by alot. And after stage 2 I get ahead by a fair bit.

IMO the cobalt stage 2 would have to be insane fast to walk a SS/SC anymore than it did, even though he is stage two, the stock ss/sc is still very fast. For him to walk you anymore than 3 cars legths to 120, he would have to be hauling some serious ass.

I am sorry but you've got a lot of wrong info in that post...
Gear ratios aren't something that can be changed by a re-flash...

Yea he does. Gear ratio's never changed, only the max RPM of that gear.

I had the same result when I was stock and buddy had stg 2 w/ exhaust. 3 cars is a huge win margin as well. Stg 2 is definetly worth it. the car screams with just stg 2 so he could possibly not even have an intake

As for from a dig he just needs some time to get used to it and I'm sure he'll take you especially since the stg 2 gives a gain throughout the whole rpm range

absolutely.. in a car that runs about 14.1, being beaten by three cars is having that other car run like 13.7.

exactly, also, not alot of people have had these kits long, so they are runnin to the dynos or hammereing them, from what ive heard you see more power after a little more driving, something to do with the computer learning the new flash 100% but hey all that have stage 2 have said its worth it, including myself. what id like to see is the intense stage 3 vs GM stage 2, that would be something.

it sounds like you raced WHeelHoppin SS, and he is as he would say "STOCK". did his car have a red and black "stock" sticker on the driver side back window?? he only has stage 1, and a few other goodies. come out to DPA tonight, he will be there along with the rest of us.

um........3 cars from a roll is a lot thats almost a second if on he track and depending on who you talk to thats really 4 cars. hood to trunk is one car than add the other three inbetween you and him. Sounds about right. and yeah thats marcs cobalt for sure. He's The one holding down the streets for us right now. He only needs to put away black06 for it to be offical.

i did'nt know there was a throne at stake....i'll take a seat tonight in it if you want....see what i get for baitin people in with a shitty launch and pullin them back in ....i'll do enough to just win if im ahead, im ahead i dont need a 18 wheeler between us to make it offical...btw a 18 wheeler is only 2 1/2 to 3-cars ha

If my clutch was slipping so bad now, I'd take some videos for you guys. Stage 2 is a night and day difference compared to stock. It is no joke. I'm sure my Fidanza flywheel and Stage 3 ClutchMasters clutch will fix my problems. Then it's finally off to the track to prove it.

i never said nothin about the reflash changing the gear ratios i just said the the 1st gear ratio is different that the 2nd gear ratio obviously and second gear is taller due to the 7k redline which changes it more... thats all i meant
