STI From a dig....

I was out and about today when I ended up behind and sparkling sti with the new front end. wehn the light changed I was hoping i could get beside him and have a shot at a roll. I gunned it at the light, but so did he.....the amount of white smoke was incredible. i was blinded and short shifter first.
By the time the smoke cleared I was behind maybe 6 cars at around 100km. Near the end he was nto pullign that bad but I was still a little embarassed.

sounds like homeboy actually know how to drive & launch his car. who knows, you may run into someone who is too scared to do a high rpm launch in his AWD car and get his ass raped by you.

I am stock for now, hopefully in the spring when i get some sticky rubber and some control arm bushings I will be a little better off the line. It sucks when you don't pull anything in first

There is a world of difference between a WRX and STi. Even with a good launch the WRX will get reeled in.

As for the STi it just won't happen from a dig. Even with Stage 2 I would only play with one from a roll. Unless the STi was modded I could usually edge then out.

I"ve taken a few sti's from digs.. but I also have a lot of **** done to my car, and can street launch like a *****..
but it is never easy... but they fall off around 80 mph or so from drivetrain losses...

but it takes a real man to admit defeat...

I just hate doin it. lol

Although STI's are great (I'd still like to have one), they've NEVER been able to keep up with me from a dig or roll..........

oops, wrong site. Thought I was on my Z site for a second...

They're monsters from a dig. With that AWD though, it's kind of hard to compare the front drive cobalt with them. I love my cobalt, but would kill for an STi.

I was just going off of my experience from DynoComp, with a AWD dyno. They still drive like they have all 291-300hp :-)

The guys over at the Suby forums are doing a good job losing some of that drivetrain loss, but you can't get rid of that extra rotating weight. If we switch out our Differential and Tranny fluids, grab a Perrin or Unorthodox pulley set, it helps alot and costs little.

I believe it's bad enough that it's a 25% loss or something of that nature bone stock.

Want to do your research?

A STOCK 07 STI has 296 hp. Then you loose what is it? 20% at most through the drive train.

220 whp would be a hell of a loss in the drivetrain, I think your talking WRX or some other car.

STI's are mean as ****. Even the WRX's (and yes I just traded my balt for a WRX)

I haven't played with any balts yet, but I will once we get this 10 inches of snow melted

I actually raced a STI about a month ago before i went stage 2, i only had cold air intake. But the car took me off the line by about 1/4 of a car not much, i have a pretty good start with my balt. After that the STI was inching back and furth scaring the hell out of me thinking it was going to launch away from me any second while pulling and falling back at the same time, but i managed to pull away from it or he just stopped giving it hell at about 110kmph. Which my car was about a bumper or 2 ahead of the STI. I also had my 100 pound girlfriend in my car. I took out the spare tire too droping like 10 pounds hah. And the guy was alone, he later then passed me with a thumbs up. Then i comfirmed it was actually a STI. Best race so far. Can't wait for the snow to clear then i'll see how my Stage 2 does. Wooo. I'm surprized you got raped soo badly. No one at my work believes me. Sept for my lancer buddy who watched me do it when we go on our drives around town. Anyways lemme know what u think guys.

The STI traps I have seen have been as high as 103 MPH. There is no way you should have been anywhere near him with an intake. It was either a regular WRX, running on 3 cylinders, or he started in third gear. No offence man but they are lethal
