Stock 05 GTO vs 07 STi vs Miata w/ Twinscrew on 14lbs

well tonight was another night to go out and hang out with the car junkies so i went out there there are 2 guys i always see , one has an STi with some mods and the other has a mazda miata with a whipple twinscrew built bottom end running 14 Lbs

So the STi wanted to run , i was game , the miata i had run before in my old GTO that put down around 375 i pulled him by around 3-4 cars so tonight i knew the runs would be better

first run 35 roll STi , he honks i have about a car by 2nd and maybe 2 cars by the end of third a turn is comming up and BAM i hit my rev limiter **** **** **** ****, i still won because we both breaked i was pissed because i hit the rev limiter first time i had done that one

Sti realizes that i would have pulled him by more so he was done , he moved over and let the miata run me

First run with the miata 40 roll i was about a half car ahead shifting into 3rd and about a car ahead going into 4th then a turn came and i had to merge into his lane to make it

Second run 30 roll im in 2nd, he put maybe a 1/4 of a car on me then i jumped into my power band ended up pulling by about 1-1/2 cars

Third run same thing i inched on him every gear it was about 1/2 a car per gear so by 4th i was around 1 1/2 cars up until we shut down , miata impressed me , STi didnt , it felt like the sti was shifting into 4th right when i shifted into third

Cliff notes : went out to my weekly meet and ran a modded STi and a Blown Miata , pulled the STI by 2-3 cars and counting and pulled the miata by 1 -1 1/2 cars , my 05 GTO is bone stock

because it poured at about 5 pm earlier today and because the miata and i werent on tire , and we really dont have a good place to dig race at the meet tonight and plus i figured it would be a good race from a 40 with a pretty modded sti so i didnt argue

Why can't he post up in the Cobalt forums about his runs?? He didn't say anything negative about blowing the doors of any Cobalts or anything of that nature. He's not trolling, just read and comment on his thread, just as long as you're mature about things.

It sounds like he's a Stage 2 STi with a Utec, or maybe the Cobb Street Tuner, or a Pro Tune. Utec is the only EM that I know that has that feature, but then again I don't know everything. He should be sitting at around 17 or so PSI of boost with a stock fuel system and EM, which is 4 or so more than stock. Good kill.

A stock GTO is a good measuring stick for a roll race I would think. I wouldn't have minded finding a stock 6.0 GTO to race at the track.

Yeah the only GTO I saw at the track back home had some Lingenfelter stickers on it, so I didn't bother. I think it would be a good race, so long as the other car got traction. The track I used to go to apparently never heard of track prep.

when i protune sti's i take them up to just below 20psi with a taper down to a little over 14psi at redline. the stock fuel system handles it and it make for some fat torque in the 3k-4.8krpm range.

the typical 04-06 stage 2 sti makes 280-290whp and 310-320tq on the dyno i tune on. 07 stage 2 sti's make 300whp and 330-340wtq.

from my experience, it takes atleast 320whp on this dyno(in a evo/sti) to be faster than a 6.0l gto from a ~40 roll.

if the guy in the 07 has an off the shelf tune, it more than likely isnt at its full potential, and even if its at its full potential for being stage 2, 6.0l gto will be a little faster from a roll.

yeah i figure once he gets his tune tweaked it will be a good run , from my personal experience there is way more power to be had with a dyno tune
