Supercharged Cougar

Has anyone ever heard about one of these things maybe some specs ? Some with a "Supercharged" Cougar claims their cougar could leave my cobalt in the dust . Any info would be great.

if its the Vortech supercharger and you're stock he should definitely outrun you, those things made some okay power but weren't very reliable.

I believe those with the Vortec made about 240-250whp, somewhere in that range. I could be over shooting those #'s though, there was so much crap talked about the Vortec on Cougar and Contour SVT forums that I forgot what it put out.

Actually I see that you have stage 2, I would expect a fairly competitive race.

is it just the supercharged 2.5 or the does it have a 3L swap & Vortec?

yeah...it would be a good race...I had a 99 cougar.....but imo it wasnt worth the money to put the supercharger in.....expensive...tuning was really expensive.....and the cars werent very reliable....especially mine! what a pos! I assume were talking the 99-02 2.5l since you gave the specs for that. The best I ran with it (intake only) was 15.6. Supposely supercharged they're around mid-low 14's.......closer to mid....so a worthy race anyway.

you laugh but the SVT contour had a yamaha engine in it similar to the one in the 89-99 Taurus SHO's...I had an 89 5spd, that was just as quick as you guys stock. and it modded great. the only thing was it ate trannys for breakfast lunch and dinner(sorry to hijack)

I didnt think there was such a thing as a cougar SC? unless its aftermarket or custom

**Making an entry and zipping up flame suit**

I had just the v-6 contour 5-speed and it wasn't a slouch for its time, if you knew how to drive it, but it had recall problems and that was the reason I traded it off. I really liked the SVT Contour when it came out, mainly because it didn't have a speed limiter. Mine would shut down at 112 and it had LOTS more pedal to go. The SVT had a bump in power (30HP) and was drag limited to 142mph...Not bad for a car 10years ago and they were priced just like the SS/SC's today fully loaded about 25 grand...

They see mid to low 14's with a full exhaust and the Vortech blower. It will be a close race for stage 2, they can leave the line faster, they have less traction problems. That V-6 weighs er' down a bit more than our Ecotecs. Some guy has a turboed one on Newcougar.org. It puts down like 410 whp and 380 lbs/trq. Duratec's aren't that bad, all motors with a 3L bottom and a SVT with a split port head run in mid 13's. I used to own one, I regret almost every day getting rid of it. Alot more confortable than the slutbalt.
