Turbo Redline vs. 556whp STi and Camaro ZL1 (VIDEOS)
It's been a little dry spell for racing here lately, but we got some good runs in this week since the weather has been pretty decent. May have some more in the next week as well, but we will see how it plays out.
First up was a newer ZL1, all stock 6 speed. The guy works with my friend and brought it here from his home town and has been racking up the races. My friend told him to race me and he didn't even ask about the car and he asked for a 60 roll since "he was spinning anything below 80" on those wide tires...so we did a couple pulls.
The next runs were against a friend's STi he just got back from being built. It has a couple things holding it back on the exhaust side, so as it sits now it is on 24 lbs making 556whp on the GTX3582.
Watch the runs in HD and enjoy My cameramen need to learn how to focus my camera...lol

The STi also ran my friend's WRX that I posted a video of me racing a while back, and the WRX had him by 3/4 car or so, it was a good run!!
My setup is Pedders coilovers set to stiffness setting 18 out of 28 front and rear, 17x9 wheels with 245/40 Toyo R888 tires all around. I've been very impressed how well the car hooks up.

They can be impressive, but the thing no one tells you is that they are not a long term power maker. They require a lot of maintenance, and you don't wanna run them at high boost more than you have to at all if they aren't fully closed deck. I've seen quite a few friends with high hp Subie's go through multiple motors, some were road raced and some were just driven how we drive our cars. The 532whp STi I posted a while back is currently undergoing a rebuild for the 3rd time, and this one had about 10k miles on it at that power level, had low compression in #4. That seems to be the case with most of them, #4 always burns down. Little tricks like adding an equal length header and putting the strongest flowing injector (even though it will be so minimal) in #4 does help keep things a little cooler in there, but even this one in the video above, he just put $43k into this build, yes I saw the invoice, granted someone fucked up before on it and the shop had a TON of things to fix and make right, but the guys at the shop that built it this time even said to us "Yeah it is the real deal, he paid for about the best parts you can get, and it will make some damn good power and isn't a cookie cutter build, but it will still be back in here in 2 years or so because #4 will get hot." Now the blue WRX from before that a good friend of mine owns is on the opposite spectrum. He had the bottom end built semi closed deck and we finished up the rest, and I tuned it, so basically it was a budget build, but still pretty solid. He keeps it on lower boost until its play time and checks things over often, has only about $12-15k into the build/trans/turbo setup. So it will be interesting to see how each car lasts. Granted no 4 cylinder will last forever at these power levels, but there are things that you don't hear about on different platforms when it comes to building them. I have a sweet spot for them since I have been around so many, but I would never own one after helping with them and experiencing all of the builds and issues first hand. Sorry for all the text lol just shedding some light lol.
I should also add, the one in this vid is hoping for 650whp after he gets rid of the restrictions and raises the boost.

Haha thank ya sir!
Well some of my closest friends have some nasty cars. Just the friends in my shop have a 1067whp Supra, ~800whp Evo, ~550whp IS300, 400whp G35, then I have other close friends who have these 550+whp Subies, 480whp SS/TC, Turbo S2k, and some other pretty quick Evo's, then there are some friends with cars in the 300ish whp range, so you could say we are all into cars so it fits right in
As for how long it will last, I'm not sure. I always make sure the tune is spot on and am pretty meticulous with keeping it up, but it won't last forever. I would think it could last a few years at least if I don't have any big accidents. I usually run a little lower boost just daily driving it when I am just playing around with it, but you never know what could happen.
I had always heard good things, but didn't know anyone personally who used them. I spent a lot of time researching and I am very happy with my decision on getting them I'll buy another set whenever they wear out.

I had a lot of fun with my car at a little over 350whp for 3 years, no shame in that!
I loved my TVS setup when I had it. It wasn't anywhere near this setup, but it was cheap and effective and surprised a lot of people.
Thank ya sir
Its amazing what a proper tire and suspension setup can do, not to mention a turbo that makes an efficient power curve to play nicely with the car. I knew what power I wanted the car to make, so I knew I couldn't cut corners if I wanted to make it useable. I'm happy with the result!
Thanks man To be honest it is faster and hooks better than I thought it would when I started planning it out on paper. I haven't hardly been above 30 lbs because it has just been a riot already!
Better have it ready for TX2K15, because we are coming down! Trailering the ol Tupperware machine down for some fun.
It's amazing I don't have a ton of miles on the car with all those Mexico trips
Thank ya sir
