So... was going down I95 with the flow of traffic, which was about 80mph at the time. Stumbled across some modded Civic (not that good with Civics guys, sorry, but to me looked like either late 90's/early 00's, body style before current). All i could see was that it had exhaust, was lowered, had a brand new-style Si logo on the back (lol...like he got it off someones new Si) and a girl in the car. I'm thinking, easy kill. At first I didn't think we would be able to go, I could tell he wanted to, but there was too much traffic. But after abour 5 min, the highway cleared up considerably, so i heard him downshift. I downshifted to 3rd, which he heard and must of thought I was gunning it, and started going, so I floored it. By the time I topped out 3rd (didn't check the speedo, sorry guys, was kinda busy lol, but I'm gonna estimate 110 or something) he was 2+ cars ahead of me, and still pulling! i was like wtf! which just happened to be when we had to shut down, because we came up on another group of cars. It was time for my exit anyways, so I threw him the peace sign to try and show i'm not a bad sport. couldn't see his reaction, but he was prolly laughin his ass off at me.

Anyways, crazy man, wish I knew what he had done to it, to pull so wickedly on me! was not happy

if not it was prolly a k20swap,
you would ahve been able to beat a b18 w/o turbo but with you would lose and would hear it

k20 is a 200ish hp motor, similar to an rsx- type s (is k20 but detuned)
anyhow its beliveable but its an expensive swap

i dont know a whole lot about honda motors tho...

honda's are light. he prolly weighed around 2500lbs with both him and his gf in there

 

i smell motor swap'd civic, probably the new k-series motor in it (indication: the newer Si badge) and a few supporting mods (intake, exhaust, tune??). the older bodies are lighter than the ss/sc. Those older body civics weigh close to 2500lbs. With a swapped k series motor that would make em killer fast with the proper gearing and tune.

I wouldnt be too heartbroken about this loss.....he cheated in a sense lol.

he was boosting or spraying. the only hondas that were sub 2500 lb cars were 1995 and older. you said it was relatively new meaning it was in the vicinity of 2700 - 2800 curb weight. even a k20 with minor bolt ons shouldnt smoke you that badly.

guys this is starting to turn into a cobalt fanboy thread. the civic won. thats it. no one knows for sure what was done to it so quit saying "oh it was this." you dont know so dont act like you did. ever think it MAY have been a GSR hybrid with some mods, those can be quite stout

I have been beaten by alot more than 2 cars before, but never by a civic. Actually, this is my first loss to any Civic. That's why I was sort of angry.

Either way, he was running a bit rich, some nice little puffs of smoke coming out when he gunned it

 

My opinion was he had a K20 swap and with a hondata tune, intake, and exhaust you can be in the 230-250 range easy. And he has a bout 600 less LB on you to so go get a stage kit and bust his ass. Because torque wins races and no honda motor is a torque monster (oop besides the element )

 

If he was puffing smoke while gunning it, he had to have a turbo in it. even with a k20 swap there's no way he coulda pulled on you with just k20 headers and exhaust. Just my opinion.

Even a properly done up b-series engine can take out an ss/sc. I don't know why people here think that just because it's a honda it can't be fast. Prior to owning my ss I owned a few hondas, two of which would smoke my car even with stage 2 and my 2.8" pulley. A
K20a2 in an rsx w/ hondata, i/h/e is a high 13 second car easily...faster in a lighter civic. I had the same swap with all that plus cams in my del sol and would run mid 12's consistently at around 110.......I don't see to many people here trapping that high. I love my cobalt and it is a quick car....and yes there are alot of riced up hondas out there, but there are also alot of fast ones....

 

Honda's suck? Tell that to the t/s. Anyway, not every Honda civic owner can afford K-Series swaps. If I had an EG or EK civic, K20 is just a waste of money. Unless your going to completely build and boost the motor, your just showing off. A GSR motor and tranny can be had for about 1/2 the price of a K20A. Plus, they're easier and cheaper to install.

What? Pour yourself a cup of water (or stfu, whichever is closest) into your engine and tell me what comes out the exhaust.

Yeah... this gets old - if there is anything I have realized, my car isn't god. I can get owned by cars - some who look like **** but thats okay, my car is quick and I love how the car looks and thats enough for me.

Civics are not to be underestimated. Even a swapped b series motor with bolt ons and a tune is quite vicious. Bump that up to a k20 swap and a lot of cars will have a problem. Put those in a light EG or something along those lines and we are going to get smoked.

I have two friends with quick civics, I will never shrug a civic off.
