Ugly old 300ZX vs Supercharged 2008 Mustang GT and 487whp 2004 Cobra
There are videos I wasn't going to post until the videos are available but my friend is taking his sweet ass time with them so I'll update the thread when they are available to me
One of my local car groups decided to cruise from Jacksonville, FL to Tallahassee, FL to hit up the Automotive museum. So naturally on the way there we drove through a giant stretch of flat straight road in Mexico. While in Mexico the opportunity arose for me to test the 300ZX out against some decently powered Mustangs. I haven't dyno'd the car yet but I obviously need too....
First race was the 403whp 2008 GT. I figured this would be a decent race. At this point I assumed my car was making mid 300's to the wheels. From a 50 roll in 3rd gear for me, brake boosting of course not sure what gear the GT was in, I walked the GT like he was sitting still. I thought maybe he wasn't ready so lined back up and went again. This time I gave him the jump and still walked him hard. At that point I was like huh, maybe I have a little more power than I thought....
So then I lined up with the Cobra. He put down 487whp in the summer and 502whp in the winter. This race I thought would be like me vs the GT except opposite results. We went from about 50mph, the Cobra pulled down into 2nd I stayed in 3rd brake booting. When we hit it, it was dead nut even, the Cobra shifted and dropped back to my door. He stayed right there until 140 when I shut down, neither one of us lost or gained anything. I lined back up to go again. This time he started in 3rd as well but I forgot to brake boost in the excitement of just edging out a 500whp car. He got a small jump on me, I ended up right by his door. The race was the same up until we shut down. Neither of us lost or gained any ground.
Next time I see the Cobra I will win, I'm still running a canned tune and only 20psi. I'm hoping to be pushing 22psi and a good dyno tune within the next few months if everything goes according to plan.

We are figuring I'm putting down around 400 to the wheels. The cobra weighs a little over 3500 without the driver. Mine weighs 3100 without me. I was heavy a passenger during the race. So total I was about 3450 and the cobra owner is a fairly big dude so we are figuring total around 3800. So about a 400lb difference. Between the cars.
The outcome surprised me and my friend just as much as everyone else. My friend even texted and said damn dude your car is stronger than we thought.

congrats on the kills!! i think the stangs were not at those numbers imo. when i had my hhr ss with bolt on's, i would put a car on a 350 that had bolt on's and that was me making 330's to the ground. however, great kills, especially the cobra!!

Once he starts posting here again, we'll know they got sick of his crap too, on the LS1 Tech forums. Are you on twins or a single conversion? I thought the 300ZXs were pretty heavy, do you have it stripped?

Mine is the old 80's model single turbo single overhead cam. They are a bit lighter than the newer ones. Mine is also a special edition that weighs a little less than the normal ones.

Stock bottom end 7.8:1 compression VG30ET, 240SX throttlebody, gutted plenum, 3in cat less turbo back exhaust, 2.5in ic piping, 11x24x3in IC, 450CC injectors, Aeromotive FPR @43psi, Nistune ECU running a canned Jim Wolf Technology tune, Schneider 274/270h cams with Schneider 110lb valve springs, 7 blade compressor Holset HX35 with 12cm exhaust housing, 38mm Tial wastegate with 19lbs springs, 11lb Fidanza flywheel, DXD SS Feramic clutch, poly engine mounts, and hopefully if things go right this weekend it will have a 96 300ZX TT transmission with Z1 short shifter swapped in.
I'm sure I'm missing things. This thing had been an on going project for years. It's still not done lol
