Had a kid pull a fly by in his Audi S4 today, so not knowing much about his car I decided to catch up and see if he wanted to take a run from a dig to 100.

Sure enough he agreed, long story short I ended up walking him pretty hard, by the time I hit 100 on the speedo he was a good 2 car lengths behind, when we stopped at the next light he asked me if it was turbo charged and what the horsepower and torque ratings were.

When I told him 260, 260, he responded, is that all?

He didn't seem to believe it, he said he was pushing 340hp and AWD and that there was no way my 260hp FWD Cobalt should have beat him let alone walked him by 2 car lengths, so we pulled over and I let him take a look.

I'm sure he was being slightly sarcastic when he said he may have bought himself the wrong car, but I couldn't help but feel a bit of pride at the compliment.

Going by the numbers hes right, theres no way I should have taken him, the Injen intake couldn't have made that big of a difference could it? LOL

Its hard to believe that there are still people out there that don't know our cars come with turbos now, its fun to see the look on there faces when they realize it though. HAHA

If it was a stock B5 S4 I could believe it, but a B6 comes pretty well equipped.

 

i ran with my buddys s4 with the v8 when we shut down my bumper was at his front end, nice cars.

You probably have 1000 lb's on that car.

 

You guys do realize that those 340hp v8 s4's are heavy as hell right? The lightest V8 s4 is 3870lbs (manual tranny sport sedan) and they get heavier if you get automatic and MUCH heavier if it's the cabriolet.

For that reason plus a potential bunch of other reasons is why you beat him. Don't be scared of horsepower numbers, find out everything about the car you race and the answers become clear.

 

It was the drop top, it weighs 1200 pounds more then our rides, its 0-60 is listed as 5.8 to 6.1 with a quarter mile time of 14 flat. (Audi website)

And yes it was the V8 due to the fact that he said he was pushing 340hp, same spec on the website.

Its legit, if I ran the 13.8 I ran last summer, and he ran a 14.1 or 14.2 the distance I beat him by would make sence.

and lets not forget about the drive train loss in AWD cars, he is not doin 340whp, and ya like you guys said, quite a heavy car, very fesiable. Drives me nuts when people race by hp #'s

I duno....I got WALKED by an S4 last summer, all he had was a tune and intake and he killed me by like 3 cars and i am far from stock....and this was from a 40 roll. I made the mistake of thinking it was an A4

 

actually live in socal, used to san fran.

the S4 was bone stock, also there is a sport mode on the automatics, if they dont shift over to that, the auto tans shifts slow, but throw it in that S and its a whole other beast good run

 

it was probably a b5. biturbo 2.7l. They are MUCH more mod friendly than the new 4.2l. The new ones are low 14's MAYBE high 13's stock and pretty much stay there without forced induction.
