What the hell was in that Silverado?

So I raced this guy in a (1999-2005 style) white reg cab long box 1500, i thought it would be the normal he thinks he is fast and i blow him away, but noooooo 2 times on the highway this guy pulled 1-2 cars on me! WTF?

i couldnt see any exhaust pipes on this thing (maybe opean headers?)
It was a 2wd
lowered on looked to be 20's
nothing looked too different

When he opened that thing up next to me it sounded ******* retarded and the power was unbelivable!

P.S my mods are stage II 2.9 GMPP Performance Cat-Back and Airbox Mod

any ideas what the hell was in that thing? any common swaps/builds?

It could have anything done to it...

My buddy has a short box '02... daily driver... looks stock... run's mid 12's... beastly!

Remember, the small block in those trucks are just a steel version of an LS1 block.

procharged, if 2wd was only 4.3L or 5.3L, might have a 5.7L too.

Joo forgot the 4.8L

These motors are baby LS1's. They have great cylinder heads on them, but horrible pistons and a baby cam. You can tear the motor apart and put in a cam and pistons and shoot out about 80rwhp gain and still sound mostly stock. You take that ~9:1 compression and bump it up to 10.5 or 11:1. and rock that thing with a good LS1 aftermarket cam. Then headers and intake. Realistically you can make 370rwhp with that type of setup.

And if you boost that thing, it's already got a great stock compression ratio for boosting. But you normally hear a procharger.

5.3 on the newer chevys is like 325 hp and 300 torque. 2 wheel drive makes the gears taller and the truck lighter. Those silverados are just bad sometimes man.

5.7L hemi

It could have been an debadged SS on spray. There was a guy at the track last year with an 06 SS 2WD with just 100running high 12s. I almost **** my pants when I saw him rip off that time.

It doesn't take much to make a Chevy SB fast. A good cam a good set of heads and they become nasty quick.

Last time I was at the strip a 1500(same body style as in the OP) pulled up, drivin by what looked to be a late 60 year old guy, sounding stock, I noticed he has drag slicks on the back and track bars... He did a burnout, still sounded stock. Staged then I saw him lean forward and hit something between the seats. I immediately thought my ears were gonna explode, He had electric header cutouts... Needless to say he ran a 9.8 1/4

That's funny how this came up, just last week at the local BP here in my town there was a blue 2wd silverado with wheels, and what looked like 3 gauges on the a-pillar. Sounded pretty good when he fired it up. He kept looking at me(had his mom in the truck with him) and pulled out and goosed it, and I could've sworn it sounded blown. Who knows man, who knows...
