I'd give it to you. But I hate mustangs. So my opinion is biased.
You sure this dude is stock?

if it was an auto and you were really good at shifting, i'd say driver's race. if he knows how to shift his 5speed and launch his car though, he's going to get you by a few lengths. you should definitely have him from a roll, but that's not really much of a real race.

eh, I'm pretty sure that GT from that time period gets around 5.5 0-60 and right around 14 on the 1/4.

If you can drive decent, you should have him. I spanked an 02' when I was stock.

from a roll, you will probably have him. roll racing is another term for speeding

if you're having an actual planned race, why not race from a dig and see who is the better driver overall? at least that way you have plenty of bragging rights about how he's a shitty driver if he loses or almost loses.

We will probably end up going from a stop, and a roll. I will have them on video. We should be racing probably sometime this weekend.

good luck. if you beat him, you can rub it in his face how a mid-high 14 sec beat his mid-low 14 second car.

dude.. if u race from a dig... lower your tire pressure to 24 psi on the front tires, DO NOT tell him that you did that. you will need this slight advantage

the only reason a cobalt is seen as a mid-high 14 second car is because of the drivers, the car is perfectly capable of running sub 14.4's stock

i think, unless the speeds get really high, that the GT will take you.

there IS a reason a mustang has a speed rep.

isn't "roll race" kinda an oxymoron. there is no shame in losing, as long as you don it like a man.

there have been 99-04 GTs that have run high 13s. just like there's been cobalts that run 14.4 or whatever. i haven't personally seen a cobalt run a 14.4, but i'm not going to spout off that it hasn't been done. an 05+ have pulled 13.4-13.6 with really good drivers. fair game for mach 1s.

^^New edge was Ford's styling deal in the late 90s-early00's. That's how come new cougars are called NECos.

yup, the sn95 went from the end of the true fox bodies such as the notch backs and hatchbacks, to 98. in 99, although still technically an sn95, the 99-04 were called the new edge. the newest models are s197.
