As worthless as the prius dragracing...

Okay, some people might think this is stupid, because it kind of is, but my brother and I made a small bet on who's vehicle is faster. I just bought this 2002 GMC Savana Conversion Van that is excellent for road trips, and he has a 1990 long box chevy pickup. We are going to drag race them Friday night. I have looked all over and have found nothing about drag racing a GMC Savana, to no surprise... Any one have any idea what to expect? This is just for fun, i'm hoping for an 18 but that might be optimistic...

The van should be 500lbs heavier than the truck at least, and won't be geared up at all in the rear axle. The pickup could easily have more gear but it could be a wash. Same engines in both trucks?

I'd put either of them in the 19-20 second range if stock assuming 5.7L engines in good shape.

Yes, both are 5.7, except the van is a vortec 5.7. I have no idea what to expect.

Both are low-rated, 250ish hp truck engines, so they aren't going anywhere quickly. The truck will be faster but my toyota would outrun both of them

I'm not gonna argue with that, timed my van 0-60 with a stopwatch, up a slight hill, with the ac on. 90 degrees with 80% humidity and it was in the 12 second range haha

I'll take the truck as hopefully it's got a bit smaller rear gear.

But after the race OP can just go to sleep in the van. thats what I would do. That is winning in my book.

this reminds me of when i was 16.

my mom's van was a 2002 chevy express in midnight blue. 260ish hp 5/7 vortec.
my buddys moms van was a 2004 chevy express in midnight blue. with the 6.0 but 4wd.

we raced once, down a neighborhood street. just imagine two big-ass-*****-phukin vans taking up the whole road, hammering down the street.

they both did 0-60 in around 11-12 seconds i believe lol

Not sure. But I think the van has 3.42, with smaller tires than the truck. Van is rwd, and truck is 4x4.

Agreed. Van wins lol

but I am rooting for the van despite the low chance of it winning haha. Gotta love the underdog

I could take out the middle seats for weight reduction, but the bed will stay cause that's more important.

I have a feeling that a 2002 5.7L makes a fair amount more power than a 1990 5.7L.

Reminds me of the time my friend wanted to put his 91 tercel against my dad's suburban. 454 turbo 2 powering that 3/4 ton. Good times.

Sometimes the vehicles that are the biggest piles are the most fun to race with.

Well, I won 3 out of 3, all on holeshot. First run was 18.0. Then took the middle seats out, and the air filter out, and got down to a 17.6. I'll try to get the vids from a friend. Beat an 80s 4 cylinder mustang 3 times with the van.
