Yet another reason why we need to keep it on the track

Coming home from work today, it was raining and pretty nasty out on the roads. Im just taking my time when a white civic, prolly 2001 or so. Loud catback, carbon fiber hood, looked like the Supra wing on the back. Kid pulls up next to me, just honks 3 times and takes off while I did nothing. Slows down to get next to me again, rolls his window down and points forwards.......... I just shook my head no, so he drops back, gets behind me and starts riding my ass so I tap the brakes and he continues to ride my bumper. I switch lanes but that didnt work either so I floor it and get back in the right lane because my turn is coming up so once I switched lanes and he followed I started slowing back down. He then gets in the left lane and continues to accelerate. We start nearing the peak of a hill as he flys by me staring me down. As he reaches the top of the hill, he is still looking at me and doesnt realize the light ahead of him is red and proceeds to slam into the back of a Toyota Sequoia that was dead still at the light. Im not positive but he had to have been doing 60 or so when he hit........... Both cars looked totaled and he tried to tell the cops that he was racing me hoping that I would get a ticket as well as himself but that didnt go his way either. The driver of the Sequoia was ok but shaken up quite a bit and the kid was cut by some glass in spots and hurt by the airbags, otherwise ok though. So........ as the title says, yet another reason racing should stay on the track. Be safe and dont screw up those beautiful Cobalts trying to prove to some jackass that your faster than him. I really believe that if I would have raced him, someone may have ended up dead instead of just hurt.

Hrm, sounds like a grade-A ricer in that honda, but it can happen with any car. A few months ago where I live some asshat decided to wrap his Viper SRT-10 around a bridge support. Those things are scary fast, and all it takes is one second of not paying attention at high speed to really ruin everyone's day. Just proves the OP's point, that not paying attention will get your ride a trip to the junkyard, and several others a trip to the hospital in a big hurry.

I agree, don't be stupid on the streets, but if you do decide have a go once in a while (like I will admit to doing on occasion), at least make sure the road's clear and you're watching the road, instead of the civic you're about to put 3 bus lengths on.

So, wait, you stopped right? That's how you knew what he tried to tell the cop, correct? Tell us more about this conversation, I'm curious how that all went with his word against yours. What an ass.

Way to ressist the urge in shitty weather.

And as sad as it was for the sequoia, i gotta say: serves him right.

doesnt really sound like proof that it should stay on the track, even though it SHOULD stay on the track. just sounds like a dumb ass not paying attention, and screwing around in bad weather.
also, how come the cops didnt believe that you were racing him? was there a witness that backed you up? tell more about this part...

Goodjob being responsible. I would have no qualms if he would have had to go into the icu or have died. One less idiot. Karma will catch up to him. He deserves more than he got. He got off lucky.

You're REALLY lucky the cop didn't buy into his story, although I've gotten out of the same thing. Another Civic, red hatch, did the same to me. I ignored him and he smashed into the rear of an Escalade. He tried to pull the same story but the guy behind me also stopped and told the cop he thought the Civic guy had road rage and was going to try and hit me because of the way he was driving.

I stopped to be sure everyone was OK. I didnt think that the kid would try to point fingers at me......... Its ok cause all I had to say was, "If I was racing him, why would I stop to check on everyone? The kid was trying get me to race him but I wouldnt so he started driving like an idiot." Cop said ok and I explained exactly what I saw and that was it.

I've been through worse. Cops DO buy stories and give tickets and crooked magistrates uphold them. Appeals system FTW, excessive court and atty costs FTL.

Karma does not exist.

It was a simple case of chance taking and stupidity catching up to him.

It's kind of like people who complain when they get a tickect for doing 45mph in a 35mph zone when they just did 140mph 5 minutes ago.

I will admit, I do race on the street occasionally but never in shitty weather and or where anyone but myself can be injured or killed. I am in no way interested in endangering a person by my actions. Problem is, there are hardly any points in time where it is devoid of traffic or people.......

there's always some idiot trying to race when i drive home.. i get off work at 9 and the street i have to take home is where tons of people race.. long streches with no lights. ive been tempted to buy a relay switch for my headlights and some strobes so i can pull up behind the ones acting like idiots and give them a heart attack.

Quite illegal. Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, Reckless Endangerment, and Unlawful Detainment ...just to start with.
Just call their plates in to the police that they are swerving all over the road, almost hit several cars, and you think they are drunk. When the get pulled over, they get the whole field sobriety test and everything. Much better...AND anonymous.

lol, and street racing ISNT illegal? i know plenty of people that have some green strobes and headlight relays. sending panic through a mongoloid idiot street racer weaving in and out of traffic is fun.. and who said anything about detaining them? you just flip the lights on for a couple seconds while you pull up behind them, then when they **** themselves you just turn them off and pass by.

So their illegal and irresponsible actions justify yours?

yep i think the whole magistrate system shouldnt exist...and on the same note..whatever is written in the police report is "what happened" unless you have evidence to the contrary.
