Time to stoke the fire. I tend to agree, the "slow" 2.4 Cobalt should have a badge other than the SS badge. It would have made sense to call it a Cobalt Z24, you know, for the 2.4 litre engine. To my that should be a no brainer!

So I find the guy driving the SS used to have that old Civic HB. I start talking with him and ask why he got the 'slow' SS. See, it has the small wing on it so I figured it was the 2.2 SS and not the supercharged one. He asked why I said it was slow so I tell him it is because it isn't the SC one, might as well spring for the SC if you are getting the SS. Little did I know that the larger wing was a $500 option for the 2007 model year. He didn't vollenteer the SS/SC info. He takes it a bit personal and ask if I want to put some money on it. I know I can outrun a n/a SS and I tell him that but I don't gamble on races.... usually. So we leave and get on the main road. He slows down to 20 mph wanting to go from a roll. That really sucks, because I'm in 2nd. I get next to him and he motions to go. I slip the clutch a bit but it bogs down (rich ass tune) and drowns itself until it moves out of vaccum into boost. It takes a good 3 seconds to get to full boost since it bogged down so bad. By now (I'm still in 2nd) he has a good car lead on me. Top of 2nd he stops pulling on me. I shift to 3rd and I'm rewarded with a loud backfire. Instant boost in 3rd and I reel him in and put him at my rear bumper just as we let off going about 80 mph. So, I win. I expected to against the non-SC SS. We get back and I get out of the car. I tell him, "Told you it wouldn't beat me." He said it was because he has only had the car for 4 days and he can't drive it that good yet. This guy has had 5-speeds since I've known him, but maybe the SS/SC is hard to learn on. Either way, he was very confident he would win. He didn't. I should have took that bet. I did look under the hood, it was the SS/SC for certain. Chalk another kill up to the 14mpg ZX2. I was going to race a SRT-4, but he didn't come back soon enough, I didn't feel like waiting. I think these guys think it bothers me to lose. I don't mind losing, I just like to race.

Of course I have a new camera but I didn't take it with me. Everytime I do no one races. Some day, I'll get one of these races on video. Ignore the signature, it only holds 8 psi, spikes at 10 psi.
lol whoa whoa whoa. I gotta stick up for the 2.4s here since no one else is. First off, I know someone already said this, but since im defending my cars right here, im gonna say it again. Its a 2.4SS, not a 2.2SS, so if your gonna call a car "slow" at least know your facts. Secondly, this is funny coming from a guy with a ZX2. Yes I read that its turbocharged and all that fun stuff. But a "JDM" intercooler? Please dear god, someone tell me thats an actual brand that ive just yet to hear of, b/c if it isn't, thats funny that you have a "Japanese Domestic Manufactuer"....or some choose to say "Japanese Domestic Market" ......which is what JDM stands for........I used to be a JDM nut when I had my RX-7.......b/c thats not even an actual brand ya know. Just like all the "JDM carbon fiber wings" you find on e-bay for Cavaliers and Ford Taurus's. JDM is a term used for OEM or aftermarket parts imported over from Japan, not an actual brand like some people think. Next, I understand that your car would probally eat mine, or most fellow 2.4s alive b/c of the turbo setup. But pair a stock ZX2 next to a stock 2.4SS, let them race, and then see which one you call slow. Sorry man, im really not trying to sound like a dick......I like ZX2s, and I thought about buying one and putting the Gude turbo kit on it in the past, so im not hating. But don't come on a Cobalt forum and reffer to models of cars that people on this forum OBVIOUSLY have as being slow. Granted, the 2.0SS/SC is faster, and the 2.4SS isnt the fastest car out there, but it IS the 2nd fastest car for under $20,000, my reference being the Car and Driver article thats listed on a post somewhere on this site, and is very respectable in the class of cars it runs in. Once again, sorry if I sound rude, b/c thats not my intention. I just dont like it when people w/ cars other than a Cobalt come on a Cobalt forum and flame, even if it was indirect.

I know i'll probally recieve flack for speaking my mind, so i'll hold my breath and wait for it to pass, lol.

The next time I take the bumper off I'll take a pic of the top of the FMIC, it says in big raised letters 'JDM'. It came with the piping kit I bought and that is the only thing I know to call it.

I would hope a 2.4 SS could outrun a stock ZX2. The ZX2 based at $10,995. There have been a couple of guys get a 15.8 bone stock out of this car. So, with a great driver, it would worry anyone in a 2.4 SS. Besides, it would still be the slower SS. Doesn't matter what other cars it beats, it is still the slower SS.

The Gude set-up sucks. The wastegate is fucked and it spikes and destroys motors. It comes with no BOV or engine management and they say that is just fine. Not a great kit to get. Maybe an okay base kit but you really have to upgrade it.

/\ no you don't speak for everyone here..don't ever let you pea sized brain think that you can... there has been a few SS mistakes in the history books, The 80's monte carlo SS, the 2nd gen S-10 Ss , the 2.4SS cobalt, and the latest malibu SS ( if theres a car in Chevy's lineup that deserves the SS due to heratige, it would have been the malibu, but they did it all wrong) i think the 2.4 cobalt would have made an awesome RS. i like the 2.4 motor and its advanced technology with the VVT in it, there good cars n all..but i dont see it as SS material , but thats just my opnion.

i think its pathetic you all are getting so butt hurt over him supposably beating your kind of cars when you guys sit here and talk about taking down DB9's and lambo's..which i dont bealive much of... its just an internet fourm, your just in economy cars..its not life or death people, get over it

oh yeah feel free to flame me, id have to care for it to bother me

You continue to make it rain on the hoes, you are doing an excellent job of it.

Just to prove that I don't care if I lose, here is me getting my ass handed to me by a very modded WRX.

ah jeez, who cares!?! I wasnt sticking up for the fact that my car has an "SS" badge, I was just saying its not slow for the money. Like I said, fastest car under $20,000, second only to a Mustang V6.......which I might add is probally alot slower if placed on a twisty track, b/c Mustangs are BOATS! I realize that the 2.4SS is slower than the 2.0SS/SC, so techinically yeah, its the "slower SS", but its not slow for what it is. For all I care, I could take off my SS badges and replace them with badges that say "Whatever the hell Cobalt it wants to be". A badge is just a badge. I understand the heritage of the SS moniker, but it dosen't mean that theres some deeper meaning that it should have to live up to just b/c its an SS. And SS dosen't always have to mean that its super fast. The SS badge on the 2.4SS just implys that its sportier. Its got the FE3 suspension, 17" wheels that look sporty, a sporty rear valance, bigger exhaust tip, and of course the bigger engine than that of a base model, so I think it wears the SS badge just as genuninely as any other Chevy w/ an SS badge. Im not whining saying my car should get more respect. I really could care less what people think. Im just saying its dumb when people whine that it IS wearing the SS badge. If you disagree w/ it, then dont buy one and leave it alone. But certainly dont come on a forum dedicated to such a car and say that it dosent deserve to wear the badge its wearing. Sheesh, why can't we all just get along. Im sure that the 2003 Mustang Cobra owners dont go to the 2000-2001 Cobra owners and tell them that they dosent deserve the Cobra badge just b/c it dosent have a supercharger!

lol thank you! Finally someone else agrees w/ me! I think people take the "SS" badge just a bit too seriously. Our cars deserve an SS badge just as much as any other SS, as they handle better, have a sportier look and more pep than the base model derivtative.

here comes the butt hurt

like i said its just an opnion.. no need to get riled up there big shooter
according to Wiki the 2.4 would be worthy of the SS
"Both historically and today, the Super Sport package has typically included high-performance tires, heavy-duty suspension, and increased power, along with a variety of other performance and appearance upgrades. All SS models have come with "SS" markings."

just cause i said somthing does it make it true? absolutely not
does it make it a proven fact that you must debunk? nope

i just dont like the fact all you guys feel the need to attack this ZX2 owner cause he came on here (god knows why) and talked about his run in with the 2.4L SS , you guys calling his car a "grandma's car", or a POS or w/e it was called, isn't fair..any car done up right deserves respect, and that my friend is whats wrong with this damn tuner scene..nobody likes anything done on any car but there own. there no respect for anyone else, there car or what they do to it...in the end i see this car trend as the last hurrah, the way alot of us act twords each other at the track, at shows and on the streets is pathetic..the way we drive on public roads endangering innocent bystanders with reckless speeds is just stupid...im just waiting for the goverment to require all cars to be limited to 75mph max and when all the real car guys are pushed away by the non-sense , the car scene will collapse upon itself with ignorance and hate

Well I know I never bad mouthed the car, I just talked about my car. I have mad respect for anyone who makes any car fast, its what I want to do for the rest of my life. I just see no reason to bad mouth anyones car, there is no winner in those arguments.

Respect for ones car is what started the argument though...most people on here were angry about him disrespecting the guys SS...so therefore the whole treat others as you wish to be treated kicks in...someone disrespects one of our clan then jump on him...

and as for sports cars...if you wanna say the SS/SC isnt a sports car...and the SRT-4 isnt a sports car that is great and all....I want you to explain that to my insurance company every month please...cuz i would love to hear how they respond

I think the biggest issue with the insurance is the fact that it is capable of high speeds but not nearly as capable of stopping or turning and the injury rating is high.

The SS in question is owned by someone I know, if he were a stranger, I might not have asked him why he got the slow SS. Besides, it is all part of the game. Got to give the other drivers some **** to keep them on thier toes.

A lot of you seem to hold high value in respect but only when it is being given to you and not when you should be giving it. Just take a look though the War Stories and you will see for yourself.
