? about mounting tires to stock SS/SC rims
So I just got my 225/40/ZR18 Potenza RE960AS Pole Position with UNI-T AQ II Wheels and I was calling around town to find a place to get them mounted. I was surprised several places flat out refused to mount the tires because they said its too big of a liability because of the rim size and the small size of the tire and that they could damage my rims or ruin the tires. Then other places wanted to charge me 45-50 dollars a wheel just to mount and balance them.
I know other people have gotten new tires did you have any problems?
How much did you pay to have yours mounted and balanced?

You need special equipement to handle low pros like 40's especially on 18's. Some shops will justify more charge to the new equipment. Other shops realize that to compete they need it and dont charge any more due to other competition. My shop would charge me the same.
On the other side of the coin they gave me their shop van so I could pick up my winter wheels so they could mount them and put on the alignment heads. they did not want to scratch the stock wheels. they are so nice.

Well I understand why some wouldnt do it but what I am really questioning is the cost some shops said 15$ but they couldnt do it for a few days because all their times were full and others could do it tomorrow but wanted a huge price.

i could have those mounted, balanced, and put on the car in no time, i work at sears, but neways, i know we charg 7 each for mounting, and 13 for each balance, so that only 85 bucks, there pretty easy to put on the rims.

holy crap where the hell did they come up with that price, i just mounted and balanced a set of 18's for an 05 mustang gt and his bill was 90 bucks, and he brough in his own tires and rims, i mounted, balanced, and put them on his car. i dont know what else they were trying to sell ya, unless they put in an alignment with it, but even then alignments are 65 bucks. oh well
I also work for a sears. My store charges $9.99 per mount (unless you bought the tires from us, then its free) and $14.99 to balance. Mounting a 40 series isnt all that bad at all. I have mounted a 25 series before. You just have to have the right equipment.
I purchase all of my wheels and tires on line.....3 vehicles, two sets of wheels each. All were mounted at Sears. They are usually very careful not to damage your rims. Price for 18s was about $78

Well I found a place I still think it was a ripoff I paid 110$ they put 2 small nicks in the lip of one rim I wasnt happy at all but whatever I have other things to deal with. I'll just get some touch up paint and it will be fine.
Thanks for your help guys I will post the pictures in another thread
