Baron7700's Conti ExtremeContact DW Long Term Review Thread.
That would have been a good thought, but ...
I wound up w/ a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. They had a $ 100.00 rebate on 4, and I got $ 20.00 each trade in on my 2 rear Conti's/
( 5/32 tread - not bad for 21,4XX miles .)
The PS2's seem to have pretty good grip so far, and the tread pattern is similar to the Sport Contact 2's.
I'd say the Contis handled better, though, as the Michelins seem a little softer.
The Michelins looked like they would have a good rim protector, but they do not.
I will be careful.
I figured if these were good enough for a CTS-V (556 HP ) they ought to work w/ my 280 (estimated ) STG 1 HP.
And, I know they sure handle fine on a CTS-V !!
These tires sure are smooth at 100 MPH.

That is one of the reasons I liked the Conti DW over the DWS.
I am actually more impressed w/ the Sport Contact 2 now t han I was when they were on the car as while the traction sucked after the stage kit got added, the cornerning ability & feel was excellent.
Oh, well - in 20K or so miles
I will look at the DW again - the PS2's are guarenteed for 20K, so if I get 22 or so out of 'em (assuming no tire slip - so far, so good ) I will be happy.Britt
Well, so far, so good traction wise w/ the Michelins - I will get a spin here & there, but nothing crazy like the Contis. More so when it is cool outside, but again, no fighting the wheel as torque steer & LSD pulls you back and forth across the lane .
However, ...
I think I will check back w/ Discount to see if the oe size or the uprate size DW is due to be built or in soon. When I bought these Discount mentioned a pro-rated trade was an option - for me, the cornering improvement & lip protector would make it a worthwhile trade.
My .02 so far.
Britt

However, ...
- The car reacts more to road ruts - w/ the OE tires, it would ignore them when the tires were new, and towards the end of their life it still did not seem as reactive as these are new.
- I see the ESC active light waaaaaaaaaay more often now. I like right hand corners
and it pops on sooner than w/ the OE's, and I'll see it if changing lanes sometimes while gunning it. Two or 3 times on the freeway around 50 or 60 , and this morning around 40 or so. Temps are in the low to mid 50's this AM. - I was NOT as careful as I thought I would be, and put some curb rash on a small chunk of the rim.
<- Boy, I was, too !!
I doctored it w/ polish & touch up paint, but if anyone has a spare OE wheel or 4
I'd be interested.

Just to make sure -
These are the ones you are talking about, right ?
I think I am gonna go by soon & see how bad I may get reamed on a pro-rated trade in.
Thanks !

Hey all, not on here much anymore, but figured I would give an update. I have almost 20k on these tires now, with assorted autox, 1/4 runs, and highway driving. They are holding up excellent. I am about to rotate them for the 4th time so both sets have been on the front for 10k, and have PLENTY of tread left, prolly 40-50%. I do have one a little more worn then the other buts my fault for waiting to get an alignment. From various dyno sheets I have, I routinely make anywhere from 370-385wtrq, and it does a good job of holding it for the most part. They are street tires after all. But they ride nice, they arent terribly loud, and wear well.
Now that I have coilovers on the car, I really have been pushing them at the last two autox events (although I do run on GMS1 otherwise ill just spin in second until they are warm up or warm out, but its been about 50f both times since the new suspension, so not optimal) and there still in decent shape. I really havent chewed them up that much. I am debating on going between these and some NT05's but I do a lot of highway driving and I need the extended treadlife (oh and they are awesome in the wet).
If anyone has any questions, PM me, I can respond that way, otherwise I really dont see any posts in here.

Just an update. THis is will be on my last rotation on the tires before they are replaced. The ones that went on the back are pretty low, but the ones that got rotated to the front still have tread on em, so with the summer coming and not really driving it rain (its not a dd, just a track star) ill burn whats leftof them up in the autox and coming months. I expect them to last me the summer. WIth that being said, that means I will have gotten approx 30k miles out of them, with proper 5k rotations. This includes going to the drag strip, about 10-12 autox events (which I won my time class!) and back road canyon carving. I really cant ask much more out of these tires, besides there price.
They have consistently held their own when running against a similar setup with NT05's. I was given an amazing deal on some barely used NT05's however, and they have been sitting in my garage for months, I am going to throw them one maybe mid summer to see how they do, and then I can make a very solid comparison, especially things like autox and drag and road racing. I dont plan on buying another set because I am probably trading the car in for the new stingray.
Any questions, PM me. I see it easier that way.

So I just got back from my first autox on the NT05. Wow. Not even a comparison! New tires hold all my power in 2nd, with just a slight chirp here and there, have a much stiffer sidewall, and I was able to drop my average times from 62.1 to 59.9. Huge! Pretty happy with the new tires. With that being said, on the street they drive about the same, and the ExtremeContact's held the power better when newer / more tread (obviously) but never handled like these do. The conti's im sure will last twice as Long I am sure.
This will become a long term NT05 thread now, in comparison to the Conti's. Any questions, just post.

I ran the DW's. Great tire life. Incredible wet traction. Pretty good forward bite from a treaded tire. Side bite was good, not spectacular. After 8 months, several long trips, 13k miles, 7 autocrosses, a track day, and a few drag strip trips the tread in the center looked really good and half worn. The shoulders though were pretty shot. They probably had one autoX left in them. If I were not autoxing them I am positive that I would have seen 25k miles and probably more as I am a stickler for keeping tire pressures right and rotating them regularly.
If I were not Autoxing I would absolutely buy them again - not a second thought or hesitation. I'm not convinced however, that they are the best AutoX tires that I could buy and still daily drive on.
Oh, forgot to add: good ride, not too stiff and not too loud.
