Black with Red Ring????

Ok my current project is painting my rims flat black....my question is what do yall think about painting a red "ring" around the outer edge (not the lip)? Has anyone done it? I need opinions...

black with the red ring is often called "time attack" rims. Not sure why, just something i picked up from my buddies that I race with.

I see what your saying but you could have got some much rarer wheels custom made for around the same price. Might have been a little more but it would be better then Axis wheels. Im not hating and I like the wheels but personally I think you got ripped off.

are you talking about doing this to your stock wheels?

imo, it looks kinda goofy, the red ring doesnt flow well with the wheel. i was thinking about doing this too, so i did a photoshop to see how i liked it. i quickly changed my mind

i'll post the picture after work, it's on my computer at home

and the posts disappear.............

anyways I think this look is unique and would look even better with some red calipers. i was really happy with the caliper paint kit i got from R1 Concepts. Comes with a brush so you dont have to worry about taping off and spray painting. You only have about 4 hours play time with it or it hardens so dont waste any time.

Whats wrong with Axis? Not just saying this b/c I have Axis wheels either....

But Axis makes some dope ass wheels. They have their hands in VIP market and even exotic market wheels now.

James Chen, who started Axis wheels years ago is straight baller now, lol. One of his 350Z's was in SCC's Ultimate Street Car shootout a year or two ago, and the cover car of this month's Super Street is Jame Chen/Axis's R35 GT-R. So Axis definitely isn't some no-name wheel brand. Granted, they're no HRE....but their wheels are just as nice as say....Volk....Work...SSR. Just not as expensive b/c they aren't "JDM fresh yo". Import fee's on Volks, Works, SSRs, Advans, 5-zigens, etc etc is what makes them so expensive. Over in Japan, they're just normal cheap wheels like say....R-1, ADR or Tenzo-R's are over here.

And $2,300 for custom drilled 19"s with tires isn't bad. My 19"s with tires were $2,000.

Black rims with a red out-line is hawt! I'm thinking of doing the same thing since the factory plating job was terrible. I have had one rim replaced by GM under warranty and it started peeling again after about 2 months and an expired warranty. Now all the rims are peeling. GM wounders why they are in such a sorry state.

Its def a good look, but its becoming played out. Years ago when I was 15 and had just gotten my first car ('88 RX-7) I wanted to put some 18" Advan Super Generation 2's on it in black/red lip. Back then that was one of only wheels offered in that color combination (Mugen made some black/red lip wheels for Hondas at the time as well). But of course, being as they were made by Advan, they were like $562 a wheel for 18"s, and my Subway highschooler budget didn't exactly mend well with my wheel tastes, lol.

There is a lot conservative people in my that think that's too flashy so I have nothing to worry about because the black/red style is rare here in the Milwaukee area. Spinners on the other hand for some reason are not rare around here. Go figure!

Sparkles are the clear. They don't look that sparkly in person.
