Black Wheels, Yellow Brake Calipers?
So I have been debating about this for quite some time. I really want to paint my brake calipers yellow but I have some concerns. I feel like this could turn out either really awesome or really crappy looking. So I need everyone's opinion on the matter. Took some pics of my car as it is and did some real quick MS Paint "shopping" to get a feel for the look I want. What do you guys think?

take a wire wheel to the rusted parts of the rotors and hit it with some hi temp black after
|
BLACK & YELLOW BLACK & YELLOW. I'd do it. Either that or gold.
|
If I had a black SS with black wheels I'd do my rotors black, and black out the headlights and tint the tails. But then again I love the murdered out look :D I won't hate on you for doing it or anything, but I think the yellow just sticks out too much, but to each there own. Nice Balt BTW!

If you can paint, it'll look good. If you can't, I'll look like shit
|
go for a darker yellow, or gold.. that highlighter shit looks horrible
|
first of all.. MS paint sucks.. so here

I'd go with the blue. Blue on black looks sexy! It reminds me of bein' beat as child, lol

i have gold calipers. here is a thread from last summer after i did my whole car. i got regular can of gold outdoor paint (like 4$ at ace hardware) and painted on like 3 coats with a good paintbrush in all the crevices. its been a year through crazy winters in NJ and WV and the past 4 months in crazy heat in south florida and the paint is still 100% perfect.

Looks good man, a lot better than the rust, lol. So have you decided blue or yellow on the calipers yet? My vote still says blue :twothumbs
|
I think I'm gonna end up doin yellow. The way I see it, If I hate how it looks, Ill get some black and cover it. :) That way I can do some lettering stencils and have yellow lettering on black calipers. Maybe make it say SS or Cobalt or something. I'll be sure to post some pics when I do get it finished. Might be a while though.

Interested in this.
I think yellow would look good with the black rims. I also want to paint my calipers, but don't have any painting experience, lmao. |
Just finished painting the fronts. I used the yellow G2 caliper paint kit and mixed about half of each of the ingredients into a beer can I cut the top off of. Saving the other half for if I get around to doing the backs. I'd put up pics, but literally the second I finished putting on the third coat it started raining out of nowhere!
I have umbrellas over the calipers to try keeping the rain off, but I dont know how well its going to work. Im gonna be pissed if it messes up my paint job. |

Did what you suggested there and I think it turned out pretty nice. I still have to paint the calipers but thats a project for another day. Do you think the brake pads will burn off any paint that gets under them? I used high temp. caliper paint and masked off where the pads usually contact the rotors.

i did it back in june. I only have one picture and it isn't very close up. I have an ls so i only have calipers on the front.

he just did the calipers.... just looked real out of place. IMO yellow is way to bright of a color to be the only thing done on an otherwise blacked out vehicle. but if you like it thats cool
|
The main thing about yellow is it's going to stand out like a sore thumb on a black car (and not always in a good way), but the great thing about it being your car is you can do whatever you want ;)
|
ill upload my cars pic after class at 1, i have it done
|
My car isnt all black anymore, plus im not sure what color yellow you plan on using. The yellow on my car is GM competition yellow. Eitherway just do what you think looks best, if u dont like it its not hard to go back to the original color. You will get love/hate on anything you do lol. Can get a better angle of the wheel/caliper if needed.

^thats interesting... idk if in a good way or bad
|
shes far from finished...but as for the yellow she is lol. the end turnout will be much better. its something you have to see in person. But anyways going with the pictures of what you have i'd stick with what you got. car looks good. But if you do decide to go with it, you might want to order paint in an aersol can to spray them unless you have your own paint gun and what not. Most of the high heat paints are a very light yellow atleast from my findings.

http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ianballa/2.jpg Anyways, Finally got around to taking some pictures of the calipers after paint. Turns out the rain actually did screw up the finish a bit so I've got more work to do. Gonna sand down to a smooth surface and put another coat or two on top this weekend. Ive got some left over black caliper paint to do the backs with and I might try to do some lettering on the fronts in black but thats for another day. Heres a pic as of now. http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/CIMG0559.jpg |
That looks good.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I finished up the front calipers with the G2 Yellow caliper paint kit. Initially a random rain shower skrewed up the finish. I came back at it today, sanded a little and repainted. I think it came out a lot better. Heres some pics.
Before http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/CIMG0565.jpg After http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/CIMG0566.jpg Whole Wheel http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/CIMG0568.jpg Still debating about doing some black lettering on the face. What do you guys think? |
Must say it turned out pretty nice. Now that I've seen it on the car I see where you were coming from with the yellow, lol
|
I probably would look ok in real life, if the yellow wasnt so faded.
edit: just saw the real pics not the photoshop and it looks fine to me |
What kind of paint/name did you use on your calipers? I had to settle for "Daytona Yellow" by Rustoleum or something I think. And yeah i have the black housing headlights with halo's coming in for the car, shorty antenna, but I'm not going to drop it because the roads where I live are shit. Thinking a different 5 spoke wheel with a machined lip and black spokes too.
|
I used the G2 caliper paint kit. You can get like 8 different colors depending on what you want. Im pretty sure it was just called yellow. (No specific name.) Anyways, it only cost like 30 bucks or something and was super easy if you take your time and be careful to mask things off. I have no experience painting and I am fairly satisfied with the results.
