Thumbs up Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS Pole Position

I thought this would be worth posting up:

Bought a set of these today... two people in the car, second gear WOT pull from 3,000RPM... no spin or slip on a bolted and tuned TC.

I was amazed.

No other tires I've had on this car so far have been able to pull that one off, much less a 400 tread rating all-season tire.

That is all.

I have these too and although it has been a while since I drove on the stock Conti's, I feel that these tires actually out perform them in all aspects...I'm very happy with them (except that they don't have a rim guard on them like the stockers...my rims love to rub up against the curbs...).

Update: WOT pulls in third starting at 3,000 RPM IN THE WET with no spin. That's been unheard of for me until now even on dry ground. They seem to really dig in.

Yeah I didn't notice the lack of rim guard until somebody pointed it out to me. Guess I just have to be careful.

Could you post any pictures of your car with these tires? For all-season they look pretty good in the TireRack pictures....just wondering how they look on our car. Not that I'd buy a tire for it's looks....but you know how it is.

Still trying to decide on these or dedicated winter/rim combo.

Sure can. I'll see what I can do and post up. It'll probably be tomorrow afternoon at the earliest though. It's been rainy and dark here recently.

Update:

Pics!

I took some wider angle pics, but you can't see them nearly as well in those. I've got Conti3s on the back right now anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered as much.

I've had a set of these on my car for about a year now. Great tires. They did pretty good in 2-3 inches of snow too. Dunno about more than that because i got stuck in a 2' snow drift at 2am in the driveway and and didn't feel like digging lol.

Glad to see they are performing well for you! Why did you got w/ the RE960AS over the RE760S? I know north TX can get a little snow....just wondering

Four reasons:

1) They were rated the #1 All-Season tire right now.
2) I worked out a deal to get them at a lower-than-normal cost.
3) Longer tire life... 400 rating (last set of Conti3s only lasted like 3-4 months ... great in the twisties, but had trouble keeping the newly tuned TC torque at bay)
4) Weren't available at the time.

Although the RE760S is currently very highly rated for Summer use, it wasn't available at the time. I'd probably rock RE760Ss too though. After being as impressed as I am with these, and being all-season at that, I'm probably going to look at those if it is or is about to be Summer.

Thanks for the pics Stamina. They look good for A/S tires. If only they had the rim lip gaurd I'd be sold. The lip on the stock Coni's has saved me a couple times....when the wife was driving of course.

Sounds like a nice tire for winter.

But how do you curb a rim? Seriously.. I have never curbed a rim in the 8 years I've been driving

Took a set of these with me when I picked up the 'Balt last December(in Michigan)-good thing too since it was snowing. They inspire confidence in the wet/slop. Most of my WOT moments have been on the Conti's but I've taken some ramps at "inappropriate" speeds w/o so much as a squeak from the Bridgestones. Makes me wonder how they'd hook at the track.
It's been raining here for like a month straight too so I guess it's time to throw 'em back on.

I thought those tires were great too until it got cold, and worse on snow and ice. Below 30 degrees Fahrenheit, they feel like marshmallows. Don't even turn the wheel and press the gas at the same time or you will be disgusted by the feel. Got stuck in my driveway that was shoveled, only a slight incline, at most 3mm of packed snow. RE960 AS Pole Position great in warm temperatures, dry, and wet. Poor feeling below freezing temperatures and poor traction. I traded them in for Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 winter tires and my problems in freezing temps and snow went away. There is no comparison between an all-season tire and a winter tire.

i have the 960s and i friggin love them!

awesome handling on my weak little LS but grip is phenomenal at higher speed cornering.

they did fairly well in the winter too.

Of course there is no comparison between a winter tire and an all season tire. But for those of us who don't want 2 sets of wheels/tires all seasons are good year round.
