Buying new tires for SS/TC, couple of options

Alright so some time ago I made a thread to see what suggestions people got for tires I should get for my SS. I narrowed down some choices and now creating a poll for people to vote in to help me get the best option.

These tires are to be used from March to December so I need something that will not only be good on dry roads but wet as well.

Thanks in advance.

Why no Michelin pilot super sport? Looks like you're willing to spend decent money on good tires and there's not been a bad thing said about pss yet

Aleksey 01-23-2013 12:02 AM

Way too expensive, at least 100-200 more than others

BLue NoTe 01-23-2013 12:06 AM

Fair enough. I quite liked my Continentals so the DWs get my vote

I have been pleased with the Goodyear GT's.

These.

Traction is better than the Conti OEM tires , and these are good in the rain as well. Cornering ability is slightly less than the Conti, IMHO.

These have rim protectors which I prefer - the Michelin Pilot Sports were wonderful, but did not have the rim protectors.

Good Luck !

i have Continental ExtremeContact DW on my car. and i took it out in the rain. pulled .7G turns, and 3rd gear WOT at 20psi, no tire spin or anything... :D

i love the Continental ExtremeContact DW for the non snow conditions

DW or DWS? lol

damastah 01-23-2013 05:51 PM

well.. i'll tell you something. i had RE11s on my care for a couple weeks as well. and the DW feels very similar honestly. the RE11s i think might have gripped more. but i couldn't feel it in the way i was driving daily

he's referring to the DW(plural, not all season) when people mean the DWS they use a capital S.

Aleksey 01-23-2013 08:08 PM

^^ yeah that's what I was thinking too, just wanted to clear it up in case of a typo or anything

Sox-Fan 01-23-2013 08:11 PM

I've got the DW. Not DWS. I give them a thumbs up. Much better than the the stock Sport Contact 2.

Mine are 235/40/18 on Stock wheels with YYZ V.2. I feel as though a 245/40/18 would fit.

Since wet AND dry traction is considered, Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position got my vote...

i have nt05's and when its warm out they grip great but i havent used them in the rain and when its cold they get hard and dont grip at all

cobaltss#01 01-24-2013 12:51 AM

I run star specs till the end of October or beginning of November then switch to blizzaks for winter.

Aleksey 01-24-2013 01:41 AM

Seems that DW is winning so far

thedude411 01-24-2013 01:50 AM

Star specs didn't make the list??? I refuse to vote!

DirtyBalt09 01-24-2013 03:12 PM

Conti extremes DW or DWS are a downgrade from stock I'd advise against either. The sidewalls are much softer than the CSC2s or the newer SCS3s. Extremes are the mid grade conti. Don't get me wrong the DWS is a great all season just not very performance based.

I like my GMAX AS-03s. They are made by conti and I haven't seen a bad review on them yet. If your not seeing cold or snow I say go for the nittos or the new star spec replacement tire just released.

Oh and get 235s.

And if you narrow it down PM Doc he'll steer you in the right direction.

DW is a *downgrade* from stock?

Uh, really? My track times say something different.

So does Continentals.... The sport contact is thier flagship line. The extreme line is a mid grade line meant to be competitive in price and performance.

I guess I could rephrase my previous statement also. The DW may out perform the stock CSC2s but they are old tech tires and have been replaced with the CSC3s.
I'm pretty familiar with contis also as I've driven many cars with all types of contis on them. The DW is a very competitive tire for the price and the DWS offers amazing light snow traction with decent dry performance. I just personally don't feel the DW is better based on my experience. But that's just an opinion anyways so take what you want from it. Another opinion would be stay away from contis and get some nittos, direzza zII, or Bridgestone pole positions if your not seeing snow or cold.

Sox-Fan 01-24-2013 05:11 PM

As you noted, the factory Conties, at least on my balt, were CSC2, not 3. Perhaps that's why the newer DW were a noticeable update both in seat of the pants and time slips.

HB_SS/TC 01-24-2013 05:23 PM

Out of those I'd choose the DWs

I prefer Michelin tires though. Got the Pilot Sport Cups on the vette and Pilot Sport 3s on the Sonic

ColeJJones 01-24-2013 05:46 PM

direza sport star specs
or
hankook ventus v12 evo

i currently run star specs on my car. great tire

Considering, it's only 34 people of hundreds on this forum. DWS has too soft of a sidewall compared to many...

Boostin15 01-24-2013 09:29 PM

I have Nexen N3000's on my tc and I like them a lot
