Ditching TPMS

Any members here running aftermarket wheels without the sensors? If so, did anything change besides the chime and light on the dash? I am curious because I installed my new wheels and tires and the tire place flat out refused to remove the factory ones from my original wheels. The light on the dash doesn't bother me, but I was reading in some forums where some performance features were bypassed by the ECU because of the missng data from the tire sensors. Probably not true for the slow LS, but I am curious none the less. I'm sure that eventually I'll break down and buy some sensors for the wheels, but for now is it "okay" ECU-wise to roll without them? Thanks.

I didn't put my sensors in my new wheels and i have and LS and all that happens is the light is on. I haven't noticed any performance problems. Hope this helps you.

I haven't noticed any either yet. I was curious if anyone else had. I suspected as you eluded to, that really nothing changes other than the fuel mileage . Mine is a grab and stab (automatic) so I notice the larger wheels and tires being on there performance-wise.

Get a pressure tight container, throw the sensors in it and pump it to 30psi and throw it in the trunk if you're worried about it.

Thats the first I've ever heard someone say about that, but its a great idea

You can't hurt anything by not running sensors, its strictly a convienence system, doesn't matter.

Most places won't remove them because they break about 50% of the time when you pull them out, so they don't want the liability.

I'm looking to get winter rims for my new 09 TC that's on order. Does it chime when TPMS is not installed? If so, that would drive me totally nuts. Anybody know?

Thanks,

Mal.

Mine chimes when I first start the car. I've gotten used to it somewhat.
