Finally!

I got my rims today. However no one decided to tell me that the only tires that fit on these rims have no mileage ratings!! But anywho, since the tires I'm getting are for "performance" hopefully they'll last a while, since I don't drive my car very hard, all the time. I had no idea going up to that size (215/45/17) meant I couldn't get 80,000 mile tires. But oh well what's done is done. Check out the rims, I'll put pics of them when they're on the car too later on.

why couldn't you get tires that had mileage ratings? mine are 235/45/17 and can easily find tires w/ mileage ratings.

are those two satellite dishes on the roof on the second pic?

I'd love to drop it, but then I couldn't afford my new TV, gotta have priorities man. My first one was getting rid of those hideous hubcaps. I found tires at Firestone that have 50,000 mile ratings, but they're crazy expensive, and I drive an LS... From what both places I went to said, performance tires don't get ratings, and you'll get around 30,000 out of them. And yes that is two dishes on the roof, I live in a small redneck town in Texas. Nuff Said.

You can still find tires that will last for a 17" size. Go to Discounttire.com or discounttiredirect.com and click on tires for your car...3 sizes will come up...205/50, 215/50, and 225/45 (I recommend the 225/45 size)...they'll have a bunch of tires to choose from.

Nice choice on wheels by the way, I was considering these in a 16" size, then I thought about the other 5 spoke wheel they sell. Make sure to get photos up so we can see how they look.

I still can't find any with over a 30,000 mile warranty for around a $100. I'll probably just go to Firestone and have them do the $70 Potenza tire.

performance tires arent made to last more then 30k, in fact even the high mileage tires from a ton of companies never last more then 30k anyways even with a mild driver (no burnouts, not excessive tire spin, etc)

You are for the Elbrus wheels...I had my eye on those and the other set on TireRack, but have been spending money elsewhere on my car first.

And what's wrong with a lowered car on hubcaps?

Nothing, I think a cobalt lowered on hubcaps looks better then one 4x4ing on aftermarket wheels.

A car with stock wheelgap as large as the cobalts with aftermarket wheels makes me think the same thing as when I see a car driving around with an unpainted body kit.

Save your money and do it all at once, If you cant afford to do it completely and properly, then save a little longer until you can.

Not to mention that it gives a bigger visual impact to the change, it goes from stock to dropped on wheels its like BAM! but with just the wheels people will be used to them by the time you drop it, then the reaction will just be "its about time you dropped it"

On the bright side, nice wheels!

just get a tire with a treadwear rating of 350+ and they will last a long time. What are you gaining by spending more money for a tire with a mileage warranty?

New Pics

Alright I finally got these suckers put on with some 50,000 mile Bridgestone tires that ended up being pretty cheap thanks to dad's $100 of coupon. So here's a couple pics to hold you over till tomorrow when I clean them up and use a real camera, not a phone in the wal-mart parking lot

Don't listen to that bs man. If you like the way it looks regardless of what you do or don't have, then it doesn't matter what other people say.

Truthfully I probably will lower it at some point, but I just bought all this stuff and don't have the money right now. I'm just perfectly happy the hubcaps are gone

My name was (and still kinda is) based on homestarrunner But after years of using it, I found it had double meaning since my Home is the lone Star state. But I'm a big fan of homestarrunner.com dude.
