Gm Powdered My Wheels!!!!
It took 6 diff. visits to my local dealerships, filing a report to chevy cust. assistance, & filing a report with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to get Chevy to finally agree to fixing my SS wheels. 2 wheels were badly peeling / flaking / chipping. The other 2 had only specs of paint missing. After filing a report with the BBB, my local dealer called me and asked me to come back in to take another look at my wheels. Next thing i know, they put me in a nice rental car that they are paying for, and agreed to media blast my wheels and then powder coating them gunmetal. I will get it back Friday.

Don't be surprised if this problem becomes a recall - or at least a TSB. Too many people I know with these wheels have this problem (myself excluded (loud knocking on wooden desk could be heard in background)).

the thing is, i know its covered by warranty, but with the 07's rollin of the line soon, and gm being unable to paint my wheels the same color they were when i first bought it, i dont see how ill be able to get my wheels like they used to be

My car has been at the dealers now for 8 days getting wheel done again for the second time. The first time it came back too dark. It's been 40 days since I bought this car and the dealer has had the car for a total of 11 days because of this wheel. I told them before I bought the car 1 wheel was peeling bad. They didn't have another car with a 18" wheel in stock. They said they would order a new wheel. After a few days I called to see if new wheel came in and they said Chevrolet wouldn't warranty a new wheel and would only refinish it. This ordeal is getting to be a pain in the ****.

powdercoating mine over the winter...screw GMs cheap paint, if they are not peeling now eventually they will, and if they redo them they will do the same thing within time.

Hi dirtySS -
Thanks for the heads up.
I already had a big scratch/gouge on one of the wheels when I bought it - they are fixing it next week while I am out of town on a motorcycle trip.
I would be happy if they gave me some $ towards a powder coat job, then I would have the spokes done in black and the rims aluminum. They also now have a powder that is very similar to chrome in look, but has none of the problems that real chrome has with metallic brake dust and road salt.
Not sure what they were thinking with painted wheels.....
when I drop it off, the list so far is;
fix blems on two wheels
address sunroof rattle
address drivers outside door handle rattle
find a stage two and install it!
best regards -

My sunroof has the same problems as well. I took it in to get it repaired and it still rattles!
Funny the will fix my wheels but not fix my sunroof

Did they refinish all 4 wheels? I got called today to say my wheel will be done tomorrow. They said they will only do the 1 wheel. It don't match again then I may have to do that BBB route too. They were trying to sell me on getting 2 wheels to match since you can only see 1 side of the car at a time, that's lame.

I recently had my wheels re-finished...They looked like ASS to say the least. They were like a greyish/silver color. I bitched and they just ordered me 4 new wheels. Should be on by next week!

Damn , this thread is OLD
Mine were done under warranty , no questions asked . The refinished wheels look waaay better than the originals . The originals were shiney , but not that shiney . The new wheels are as glossy as the paint of the rest of the car . The shade of gunmetal was dead on .

wheels?
Well i hat eto admit this but i too had one of the wheels replaced on my ss by the dealer. oh they were real willing to replace it, but when i got the wheel back, they put the tire on backwards from the other three. on top of that when i removed the wheel to put the tire on correctly, the inside of the wheel was absolutely the most garfed up wheel edge i have ever seen. it looked like someone used a tire iron on the sidewalk to put the tire on. needless to say, gm will NOT touch this vehicle for service or warranty work unless i am standing ten feet from it. seriously, when someone buys a car like this, they have to know that the perosn is gonna check it over and notice their unprofessional work.
