Gotta be different!
Gotta be different!
Alright guys, GM fucked my rims up real good before the winter. So I had no choice but to refinish them, didnt want to do the norm and paint them black, needed more flash than that. Always loved the bronze rims on sports compacts. Got looking around and found that dupli colour makes a specialized wheel paint that "Restores a factory finish look", stands up to stone chips, brake dust, grime and cleaners. So I went with the bronze metallic.
I will have pics of the rims on the car next weekend when I clay bar and paint the calipers and get the winters off.
Keep in mind that these pics are WAYYYY light because of the sun and reflection off the heavy metallic thats in the paint. The paint has a real "satin" type finish to it.
Heres me ******* up my own rims.. a light wet sand to get rid of any current chips, peeling, bubbling and all that good stuff.

Heres the rims still wet... they look spotty because we just sprayed them before the pic was taken, the paint flattens out in about 5 minutes... the darker spots you see is more of the colour they look now.

Heres how they look after they dry (once again, they are MUCH darker when you dont catch the reflection off the metallic)

Heres a shot of 1 rim dead on.. again too bright..

Alright, so there you have it for now. And YES those are playing cards jammed around the rim, it worked like a ******* DREAM! We were able to get the paint down the side of the rim, cant see any other colour but the bronze, kept the paint off the tires, overall I wouldnt have done it ANY other way!
The center caps are completely the same colour, I have ordered the small black chevy bowtie overlays for the center of the caps to match the car itself
The paint was real easy to use, goes on very smooth and the rims only took 3 cans at $8.50
each! And thats full coverage on the faces and full coverage behind the faces so everything is the same colour! You cant really lay a good clear over it because the paint is an acrylic enamel and its not suggested.
I will update this post with pics on the car on sunday
Let me know what you guys think!

Wish I could take the credit for the cards. My brother (5150studios) saw his buddies pics of how the guys are doin the wheels on their lancers.. but ya, I wouldnt do it any other way, wouldnt even consider taking the tires off, fear of screwin the paint up puttin the tires back on
first off your brilliant with the cards idea or whoever it was that came up with it. ive painted so many rims with tape and it comes out good but thats gottta be faster and prob works better.
and secodn it looks like you did a great job. good luck and i hope they look as good on the car asd they do off

Thanks for the responses guys! I will have the rims on the car this weekend (wanted to let them dry completely for a week before exposing them to the elements) and I wanted to detail the car and paint the calipers first too.
