I need Winter Tires -or- "How I learned to love the bomb"
Well Howdy Folks....
I have a problem. I recently purchased an 06 SS/SC Cobalt and Now i am left wanting.... Wanting what you may all ask, and to that I reply.....
I WANT TRACTION!!!
My question lies with all of you and your vast collective knowledge;
What are the smallest rims I can fit and still have clearance for the brake rotors? I want to swap off my rims (I KNOW it is only a matter of time before the dreaded road-camber-curb-stomp). Like I said earlier, I have a 2006 Cobalt SS Super Charged, for now It's running 225/45RZ/18" What can I get for cheap blackout rims to put my winter rubber on... That being said, what should I wrap those rims in, I live in Calgary, so there is a good chance that the tires will see -30, +30, dirt, snow, ice, water, gravel and asphalt all in the same day.
Are there any left in Canada or did stupid Quebec take them all?
*more incoherent mumbling about quebec making it law to have winter tires*
Thanks in advance!

You lucky SS/SC guys can run simple 16" steelies, so just do that.
As for tires, my recommendation is a set of Gizlaved Nordfrost 5s or some Blizzak WS-60s.
The Gizlaveds on my SS/TC show the Swedish know their **** with tires... The car's been unstoppable.
My dad runs WS-60s on his car, no complaints there either.

allrighty then,
So I am heading out to see what this is going to cost, I am also going to swing past pick-n-pull and see if they can do anything for me. I am keeping an eye out for 215/55/16 rims and I know a guy so I'll get them wrapped in rubber through him.
So, any last minute ideas? Should I just go in and look for the 215/55/16 or are there other set ups I can use? And just so that I know what is going on:
215/55/16 = Tire Width/Sidewall/Radius
Right?

What about Continental ContiExtemeContact, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, or Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S in the snow?
I used Goodyear Triple Tred all-seasons in the snow this winter with my RWD Crown Vic and was amazed at the grip I was able to get.
