...$1642. Ouch. But when you live 400+ km north of Edmonton, you have to have them. The Blizzak LM25V lo-pro high performance winter are awesome and perfect for the weather we get here, handle (to me) 98% as well as the summer high-performance and they fit my stock wheels. 225 is 10mm wider than the stock and they look terrific. Love them. Carving through northern Canadian snow and ice with low profile tires. Funny stuff...

BLIZZAK LM25V baby!

Fountain Tire in Fort McMurray. $1642 installed and balanced which is a lot but in Fort McMurray winter tires are a must. I was looking at the Nokian Hakkapeliitta which my friend who has an WRX got but they don't make anything that fits the SS/SC stock wheels.

I had given a $650 deposit to Kal Tire here for a set of 215/45R18 Michelin X-Ice about 7 weeks ago, on order, and two weeks after that they told me they had arrived, but when I brought the car in, they said oh sorry we never got them after all.

Needless to say I was pretty pissed.

Anyway, I called around and luckily Fountain Tire had these Blizzaks in so I got them installed. You can still order them online from 1010tires though.

The Revos are slightly better b/c of the multicell compound but the LM25V have the V speed rating (not that I'd use it really) and the lo profile configuration. Fantastic tires on ice and snow and the 225s look great too.

Cool. I got the WS-60's at Midas in Camrose, AB. They were $650 or something like that. But everywhere else between Red Deer and Edmonton was completely out of them, and they couldn't get them in for the next few weeks. And the lady at the Midas shop said these were the last four in 15's.

I had a Pontiac G5 with stock all-seasons. I went for a slide on ice (turned too fast) and hit a snowbank doing $2500 worth of damage 3 days after I drove it new off the lot. I didn't fix it and eventually I hit a deer with it driving from Edmonton to Fort Mac and totalled it. Then I got my SSSC and became a winter tire convert.

The X-Ice are a terrific choice. I will never buy allseasons again.

I think I got pretty lucky with Fountain Tire. I got my deposit back from Kal Tire obviously, but after that experience, I will probably never deal with Kal Tire in Fort McMurray again.
