LS OWNERS ONLY - Speed Ratings

I am in the search for better tires for the Cobalt. Tire size will be 225/50/15 of course.

BUT here is where the poll comes in...my ECU will be reflashed so I don't cut off at 108. So should I go with H or V speed rating tires. Heard of my friend hitting 127 in his Cobalt LS. So that made me want to go with the V rating tires. But not sure if the Cobalt will be able to reach over 130.

Thanks,
Eric

Its better to go above and beyond what your car could possiblly do. b/c the faster you go the less you want to have a chance of blowing a tire

take it to the dealer, show them the higher rated tires and they should reflash it to the "sport" package

unless hes moded theres no way he saw 127 in an ls...i call bs on that...especially considering the 2.4 tops at like 130...besides theres only 120 on the ls gauges

Yeah the max I think I could possibly hit is 120 due to there will probably be more wind resistance than power.

I just know the car isn't being held back then. Because I'm at shift point in 4th gear at my cut off, and I paid for 5 gears. LOL

My 05' LS's Speedometer goes to 140MPH! I have to sports package w/white face gauges. I also have the 16" wheels w/pirelli's.

Is there a way to add the sports package on? Can you buy those guages?

Have you actually confirmed that with the dealer yet? That's a big "should".

Don't hate.......Just believe, and be happy for him. Maybe his 2.2L is a factory freak, and is capable of 130mph. Or, maybe your 2.4L is a dog, and can't run with the rest of the pack! I personally have never had my 2.2L over 120mph.....and I hadn't hit redline yet, (6,000 rpm's) so I know mine is capable of higher speeds too!

this is one of the dumbest threads ever. why are all of you doing 120 + in your cars on public roads? that is the dumbest thing you can be doing. i don't care if you're in a hyundai, a cobalt, a vette, or a ferrari. you should not be doing 100+ let alone 120 and 130 on public roads. fucken rediculous.

I don't drive that fast daily....... I have only drove my Cobalt that fast twice since I got it. Both times was very early in the morning (430am-530am) and there was NO TRAFFIC in site on my side of the highway. So don't lecture us on road safety. I bet you have driven over the speed limit before. Doesn't matter if it's 5mph over or 50mph over...... YOUR STILL SPEEDING!!!!!!!!!! >GET OFF YOUR SOAP BOX< rant over

sorry for my language but....**** decent sized pole...you hit a frikin stick at a 130 and itl tear that ls to pieces...that car isnt nearly stable enough to see anything over 115 let alone see it on any public roads...anyone who does that has no reasoning skills whatsoever......before you drive like a jackass you should: have proper tires(yall dont)...have sport or high perf. suspernsion(yal dont)...perfect pressure in each tire plus proper tire heat( i kno yall dont hav that)...and finally your gonna need a liscence.....sorry for bein an ass bout it but you guys shouldnt be speeding...no matter what car it is

I've had my LS Sport up to 125mph.

I've got the white faced gauges that read 140mph and 16" wheels, but I think I have Michelins not Pirellis.

Oh I've added an Exhaust (DC Sports Single Resonator) System to my car. But I doubt it'll make THAT huge of a difference in top speed.

And yeah i had under 500 rpms left till my redline when I hit 125.

don't tell me to get off my soap box. i don't care if you don't do it daily, because i've never done that. 5 over is completely different than 60 over! i'm not going to loose control doing 70. go ahead though, spend unneeded money buying v rated tires so that you can go 130 twice in a year at 4 am and put your life at risk. it's really not my problem if you die, anyway.

it doesn't matter how many rpms you had left. when you go that fast, you reach a point where the drag of air is more powerful than the engine and so the car can't go any faster. it's called drag limited.

edit: oh yea, you're stupid too for doing that on public roads. have a nice day.

just for reference... i hit a pothole the other day doing 75. this wasn't even a pothole though, it was like a bottmless pit in the middle of the highway. my car completely bottomed out, stalled out, i had no power steering and i could barely hang onto the car. at 75 mph, and i almost lost control from hitting a pothole. now think about things like that next time you decide to see how fast you can go.
