Slicks

I have spent the past hour and a half searching for slicks for an SS S/C

I need slicks with rims aswell.

Id prefer 16" or 17" I just need traction.

I am not sure that you can just buy some slicks and bolt them on. I would go with Drag radials. Wouldn't want to break anything with so much traction. But I am not sure this is my first FWD car.

Problem is that 15" is too small on the SS/SC so as good as it sounds, the deal would backfire. There are rims off of tirerack that I got that are 17" and were $88 a piece.

they are not the right bolt pattern and are too small for the SS/SC

I dont want rims unless I can put either a drag radial on them or a racing slick. I was looking for a rim and tire to get more traction. I am still unsuccessful in this search

Why won't 15s fit? Might have to grind a bit on your calipers, but I bet they will fit.

For slicks... http://www.mandhtires.com/ Call them and ask for John.

I wouldn't do that only because there is barely any clearance as is on a 16" rim so 15" you have to grind a bit off . Just doesn't seem smart to me...../shrug who knows.

but is the drivetrain going to handle the grip of a slick, or is the stock setup going to break ****.

Slicks will help cushin the engine/ cut down on wheel hop a lot. Why buy another "Street Tire" when you already have your P-zeros. Dr's will still get wheel hop, and will cut your time down some. I know a lot of people, that have bought DR's, then the next season buy slicks and never go back. Its a waste of money.

Now onto the problem that arises here. You cant buy racing slicks for a 16" rim. The common size is a 15. So someone has to figure out how to fit a 15" rim on this car, or find a company that produces slicks for a 16" rim, that wont be outragous in price. Last time i bought slicks, they were pretty cheap. you can a grab a pair for about 200 bucks.

Mickey Thompson makes a true 16" slick , and a true 17" slick . Problem is I doubt they would fit as they are sized for putting slicks on stock Camaro/Firebird wheels . The 16" slick would compare to running a 255/50-16 radial , 26" tire height with a ...if I remember right 9" tread width . The 17" slick would compare to a 275/40-17 radial , size wise . When I put my winter wheels on I held up one of my F-body 275/40 tires in the wheel well . The inner part of the tire was mashed against the inner wheel well and it was still sticking out about 1.5" from the fender lip .

I still have a set of the 16" ET streets from my Trans Am . What is the widest 16" steel rim available . The rim would have to be minimum 8" wide to run those tires .

Are you sure of this? With 1/4" spacers, will it clear the brake calipers?
If you know anyone, or have done it yourself, can you post some pictures.
I am very interested in this.

Because if we can get 15"s on this car without any rubbing issues, it would be awsome.

Well , cool then . It will be MUCH easier to find a suitable 15" slick for the track . I always had to run a 5/16" spacer on the front of my F-bodies to clear the brakes with skinny 15" wheels, nothing Im not already used to .

Um, anyone know of any sites that i can purchase spacers from?
Also, are the stud lengths going to be okay?

My dad has 1/4" spacers that he used to run on his 68 camaro. Will those work or not?
They are the typicaly chevy 5 lug, but im gonna guess the holes wont line up.

If you have a pep boys , auto zone or kragen local , you should beable to buy them there . Those spacers typically have slots that are wide enuff to accomdate alot bolt circles . The ones from your dads car should work fine for strip duty .
