Stock 'summer' tires good on ice!
Stock 'summer' tires good on ice!
So in Saskatoon we had a crazy morning of ICE (
)....
To my suprise, my stock 'summer' tires were gripping very good...
Many people who have already switched over to winter/ice tires were complaining of getting no traction, and skidding through intersections... WTF?
I could stop very easily, and never didn't break loose at all... although i kept it in low in the boost!
All i can say is, good job Pirelli and GM... these tire are great!

Now... the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S are AWESOME IN the SNOW and ICE (and dry and rain).

We got about a foot of snow last week, and the stock tires on my SS/SC are NOT made to move through snow, and that is pretty clearly stated in the documentation. 2+ inches of slush on the road = "swimming" from lane to lane just trying to stay out of the ditch. These tires are so not made for snow. The weather got a jump on me this year, but Thursday night I jumped online and ordered steelies and some Blizzacks. They showed up yesterday.
I think my hands are still in muscle failure from gripping the wheel so tight.

did you check to see if you were driving down railway tracks? because thats the only way you would keep stock pirellis straight in anything but dry pavement.
I went into this winter thinking i might be able to get away with driving on them....as i had driven on 17 inch low profiles for quite a while (in my last car).
but the stock pirellis have to be the most dangerous scary 5 minute drive of my life in our first snow.
16 inch steel and goodyear nordics were ordered the next day.
ok... i stand corrected... they suck ***** in fresh snow...
we had a huge dump of fluffy white last night.. and i couldn't move...
well... i think some hack2's are needed! or x-ice's

So we established that they are horrible in the snow, My question is how do these handle in the summer? Wet/Dry Conditions? Also along with the G85 LSD and the Ingalls Dampers? (Car won't be here untill spring so I figured these things are good to know)
The compound is so soft in them (lucky if I get 40,000 kms out of them) it would make some sense for them to be decent on ice, but there was no way I was risking it or me.
It will be the last Pirelli's I ever own.
You can't beat winter tires in winter driving conditions. Plus it's so much fun pulling out around stuck 4x4s and SUVs that have all season tires on them. Feeling evil??? Ask if they need a tow hehe

I ordered some Kumho Escta ASX, we will see how they do. I live on base, it's 3 corners to work I almost hit the curb 6 times. Last set of Pirelli's I will ever buy, they do handle pretty good in the summer though. Wear pattern is a bitch, how many miles you get out of yours before you had to get rid of em'? I got 16k outta mine, they are shot. I will be taking the Ecsta's off for autocross and putting on the Pirelli's they got a few runs left in em'.

They suck, they get terrible traction unless it 100 out and its dry. If it rains they slip, if its below 80 they slip. A guy i know had the G85 and they did alright but still slipped pretty easily. I would sell the stockers right away and get some Eagle F1's GS-D3's
