Summer Tires
Summer Tires
So in November I got rid of my all season tires because they were worn to the bone and picked up some dunlop 3d winter tires. Now its the end of March and I'm in need of some summer tires. I have been looking at some other dunlop extreme performance tires but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I'm looking for a tire that has great dry and wet trac, doesn't wear to fast, and has the ability to perform well on the track if need be. I'm looking for something thats under $200 bucks a tire. Noise isn't really a priority for me either. Please post need advice. Thanks
Dunlop Z1 Star specs. TireRack has them for 178 each. That ain't that bad of a deal. Thats the only tire i'd run in the summer time. Traction and handling are the best, hands down. The only thing better would be slicks......lol
If you have to drive in the rain, I'd get the Conti ExtremeContact DW's. Well...I did anyway. 340 on the treadwear iirc and wet traction is great. They are my summer tires. 235/40 - 18's.
I know there are stickier tires for the track & autocross, but some of us have to drive it every day.
Balance, grasshopper. lol.
Seriously, check out the test reports on Tire Rack on them.

these....they are amazing. although they got quite a bit more expensive, i bought them for my sentra se-r specv last year. They were 100 a piece on a 215/40 by 17. now there are around 150 for that size and 180 for the ss/tc size
I bought the Falken 615's last year and they are almost worn out, but they do a good job keeping the car stuck to the road. When I get another set of tires, I think I'm going to go for a treadwear rating above 300. I just hate having to buy a new set of tires every year.
they are running a rebate on them now and got them in 3 days I couldn't believe it. I was told they are awesome tires time will tell.
how in the F did you get 60k off them?! I think rallyracer got 30k now maybe more. I only had them on my ms3 for 2 weeks before it was totaled. But they work well, side wall isnt as stiff as oem tires, but they grip well in rain too.
what site? i got them of discount tire direct...allegedly with 80 off rebate, never got the rebate, complained and nothing came of it, now i wont deal with them anymore.
I second that... I love BFGs they make really good tires. That said... I just got the Hankook RS-3 in 245/40R18. They grip very well unless it is wet outside. I only have 1,000 miles on them at this point but they seem to be wearing in quite nicely.
Vulcantires I think have to double check.. It was a instant rebate on 4 tires. It took 3 days to get them and 2 of them was the weekend I'm still amazed how fast I got them haha..

Determine your tire needs, check the test ratings, then check prices.
If you want maximum performance at all costs, go for a tire like these:

(I use the Kumho 710's on my Z06 for track tires.)
You can't get everything in any one tire. For my driving with the Cobalt I ended up with the Extreme Contact DW's. Some tires test higher in certain areas, but overall for the street they kick butt. Grip wet and dry, mileage, noise, etc. I think I paid $150 a tire from Discount Tire. So the price was reasonable too.
It's up to you to decide, but make an informed decision and you're more likely to be satisfied with your purchase.
