Tire Reviews
I've seen a lot of threads about tires, but I think it would be cool to have a thread where whoever wants to can post a review about the tires they bought for their Balt, since most people shop for something other than the stock tires. That way, those looking to buy tires can search one thread and get a lot of info. Maybe this could even be stickied if enough people respond. If we listed stuff in a somewhat standard format, it would make it easy to search.
Also, let's try to keep it civil and not have people slamming others' tire choices
Well, I got some new tires recently for mine:
Car: '06 Cobalt SS/SC
Wheels: Stock 18s
Suspension: Stock
Old tires: Stock Pirellis
New tires: Dunlop Direzza DZ101s in 225/45/18
Price: $137 USD each at Tirerack
Well, I wasn't really sure what to expect with these tires, but they were way cheaper than the Pirellis, so I gave them a shot. After 400 miles, I can say the straight line traction is noticeably better than the Pirellis - still a bit of spin, but I can floor it in 1st gear without bouncing off the rev limiter. Slightly wider tires may have something to do with this.
Dry cornering is great. Depending on the turn, usually sharper ones, I was fighting understeer with the Pirellis a lot, but the Dunlops stick hard and the car actually seems to get through tight turns better. When I push the tires to the limit, they're pretty predictable and they start to slip gradually, rather than letting go all at once. (The Pirellis also seemed to be good about this).
As for wet traction, I don't push my car hard in wet weather, but have driven in rain a few times and felt safe - no problems - the tires seemed to handle the rain just fine and didn't lose traction.
I also think the tread pattern looks cool, for what it's worth
Oh, I'm also keeping the tires inflated at 32 psi.
Anyone else interested in posting their tire review?

I got the Kumho Esta SPT 225/45-18 on my ss/sc. Way better then the stock Pirellis. They hook up so good on dry pavement, wet not bad, and thru the turns its holds like its on rails. A great bang for the buck.

I had Falken Ziex ZE 512's 235/40/18. Overall a good tire. Way better than the stock tires except for corners. In my opinion it felt like the sidewall was too soft for the corners. Just felt like they were gonna roll right off the rim. A decent priced tire also, you can find them for around $130 ea. online.
