Two Tire Questions (SS/18's)
hey
First question is, the stock tires.
ive had my car for about 3 weeks now, did lots of driving, have about 5000 kms on it so far.
the stock tires (the front ones
) are starting to scallop on me, getting high spots and low spots making for a bumpy ride and shake in the wheel.
there is plenty of life left in them, lots of tread depth, but they went all funny.
now, from what I understand, Tires is something that is not covered under warrenty.
but with the problem im having, will the dealer do something for me ? or will i simply be wasting my time even going over there, anyone have any advice or reccomendations on how to handle this, with the car so new, and the tires going all crazy like that, I was thinking maybe something could be done.
Second question is
Alternate tire sizes.
Ive checked around and price some new tires, but alot of my local tire dealers dont even list the 215/45/18 in there books or on there computers, why is that ? fairly new size to the market or something ?
so I was wondering if there was another size i could use that is very close to what i have no, I do not want a lower sidewall hight, would a 225/40 be close ? ive checked online and read some of those tire calculator things, but i would rather hear from someone first hand before i drop some cash on tires and order them in.
Thanks
Stephen

I went to 225/40, and I think it looks even nicer. I used HP tuners to change the car so my speedo isn't off at all. I was told that the new tires looked badass earlier, because of the sidewall and low profile on them.
As far as warrenty goes, it's probably going to be hit or miss. Take it to 2 or 3 dealers and see what they say. Just cause one says no, doesn't mean another will. You won't know unless you try. Plus whats happening isn't suppose to happen, which is what that warrenty is for.

Generally wear like that on the tires is mechanical wear and would not be covered under warramty. But, because it is a brand new car with stock tires there is no excuse for wear like that. They should replace them for you no questions asked (should). You need to take it back there and show them what's going on - you may have something going on with your suspension or alignment. Did you hit any curbs or huge potholes? It may have thrown the alignment off and caused the tires to wear like that.
The 215/45 tires are a really odd size and there are only a handful of tires worth getting in that size and they are expensive. Your best bet is to go to the 225/40.
I also have 225/40s and they look and handle great. I called my dealer as soon as I installed them and they told me that I did not need to get the computer recalibrated and it would not affect my warranty. They handle about the same if not better and they will not hit when you turn the wheel all the way.

Congrats on the purchase, however, I work at a dealership and most service managers woould be suspicious of a brand new "Sport compact car" with warping front tires. I am not saying you have abused your car in any way, I'm just saying expect your sales manager (assuming you do not know him well) to question how you have been driving your car.
However, since your tires are warping and not so much getting bald, there shouldn't be too much of a problem. Good luck!
