Ultralight 16 inches wheels in 5x110 for a Cobalt SS/SC ?

Hello guys,

I would like to know if it's possible to get ultralight 16 inches wheels in 5x110 for a Cobalt SS/SC ?

I mean is there anything like a Volk TE37 16x7.5 at 11 lbs ?

Maybe something more reasonable in pricing in the 16 lbs range or so ?

That bolt pattern is really problematic...

I tried searching by myself, I found some specimens, but all in the 20+ pounds range or so, not really worth switching... I will keep my stock 18s in that case.

Thank you very much !
Konnan

I searched more, the best specimen I found is an Andros Spec D at 16.3 lbs per wheel, quite affordable too.

What do you guys think about it ? Do you know if it will fit properly ? Do you know any better ?

I think those wheels with something like Continental ExtremeContact DW 225/55R16 that would make a nice light combo for a ~37 lb total per corner.

Thank you very much !

Call tirerack, see what they have in options? They usually weigh everything and are very technical, not a bad bunch of guys to bounce ideas off of.

Andros Spec D is lightest wheel we can guarantee to fit SS/SC; 16x7.5 ET42 @ 16.3 lbs. avg.

currently at $ 129 per wheel

Thank you very much, that's really appreciated ! Since you do not allow to select 16s on your website, I wasn't sure you could guarantee fitment !

You are really awesome !

It's funny to see the silver one heavier, paint weight ? ;)

Hello again guys,

I'm wondering, do you think I will regret my choice due to the sidewall flex ? I think the ExtremeContact DW is a tire with really good grip and the sidewall should be quite stiff and I shouldn't loose too much in cornering.

In some way, I think it could be even a tire that is more forgiving a bit, instead of suddently losing grip with a 18,19,20.

What's your thoughts ?

Thanks !
Konnan

what exactly do you plan to do with it?

Slowbalt2000 11-22-2013 08:13 PM

Not bad looking wheels

55 is too big of a sidewall. I know you saw the 50's on my car, that's still too big. I think 45's would be perfect.

Maybe lapping 1-2 times by year, dragging 1-2 times per year, other than that it's my daily drive and I want to have more fun with it. Removing 10 lb per corner seems like a good idea... ;) Also, it is quite affordable to do it... tires will be much cheaper in the long run, and if I hate it, they will become my winter wheels, so not a pure loss.

I agree with you, I could go with the 225-50s, still within the 3% limit.
But for the 45s, unless I go with 255s, that is not possible... and I do not think that you can fit 255s, unless doing serious mods, right ?
Even then, you cannot get 255/45/16 tires...

What is the largest you fit on stock wheels ? I heard on this forum that 235s can rub in the rear ?

Disposable-Hero 11-23-2013 01:26 PM

You can fit any size tire you want, with spacers/adapters and the right wheel. If you're really that concerned about the speedo being off, the stock one isn't very reliable anyways, then get the right tire size for it. My tires match the stockers almost perfectly, but I still use a speedo app on my phone if I really care.

Konnan 11-23-2013 05:52 PM

I do not care much about the speedo, I care about the ABS and such...
Why you do not like your 50s ? too much flex ? bad grip ?

Disposable-Hero 11-23-2013 07:25 PM

Grip wasn't bad, could have been a lot better, they aren't great tires. I just think they flexed or rolled too much in corners, that's why it destroyed them. Plus they just look too big lol

Konnan 11-23-2013 08:19 PM

What tires did you use ? I checked your thread... General something ?

Disposable-Hero 11-23-2013 08:24 PM

Ya General Tire, Altimax HP 225/50/16 on an 8 inch wide rim. They're a nice width, fill the wheel well without too much rubbing.

Konnan 11-23-2013 09:13 PM

That's a grand touring all-season tire... might explain why you didn't like them on the track ! ;)

Thanks alot for your advice, much appreciated !

Disposable-Hero 11-23-2013 09:16 PM

That explains it lol I only tracked once this year, I wanted a good all around tire and that's what was recommended. Definitely getting something better next year.

Konnan 11-24-2013 02:13 PM

Well it's a very good all around street tire... but that's not what you need !
