What's the deal with them? I understand you slide them on your studs and then have a new lug pattern of your choice... But that just seems really unsafe and just doesnt sound right to me. Anyone wanna give me their opinion or what they know about them?

 

Adapters are best used for "show" cars or anything other than a daily driver. The added stress on the suspension and steering components caused by moving the mounting surface of the wheel further away from the hub can be a major concern. Redrilling the wheel to the "correct" bolt pattern isn't much safer, as you take away from the structural integrity of the wheel by poking more holes in it that it was designed for........

 

Doc you are right, adaptors can be an issue. But FYI, many Cobalt replacement wheel bearings from AC Delco come with 10 holes already drilled and many of the wheels you sell come with 9-10 holes drilled in the wheel, eg 4 x100 and 5 x 114.3.

 

Thanks for the clarification. To be sure, many aftermarket wheels come with dual bolt patterns and are perfectly safe to use. The concern is when we see the a wheel redrilled with at least one of the "new" holes is almost right on top of the factory hole or "sleeved" (for obvious reasons).

I have been running 5x110 to 5x100 adapters for nearly 3 years now with not 1 single issue. I got them custom made from motorsport-technology who are located in california, mine are 19mm which is the smallest 'safe' size to get.

 

hockeyman, how much were those and what size are your rims on now as in width
