245/40/18's will be fine if you only plan to use them on the front at the drag strip. They may rub slightly when you turn though. You should use an 8" or 8.5" wide wheel with them though. 7.5" minimum.

Man, you guys always seem to know wtf you're talking about. I am running Nitto 555's 245/40/18 on my stock sc rims. No issues and traction is great. ******* great.
No rubbing

My 225/35 18's Are rubbing like crazy in the back. as soon as i put 2 passengers in my car the right rear rubbed the paint off and the tires is starting to shave off. Should the tire place pay to paint my wheel well. I bought the tire insurance. They better put a shorter tire on without question!

Okay so the stock wheel for an SS/SC is 18x7 correct and not 18x7.5.....now I am running 225/45/18 now without issues on my stock wheels. Can I get away with running 235/40/18 on the stock rims and what is the size of the wheels?

Wrong as in size or tire brand/model?
When you wider with a lower profile you get a larger contact patch and then the lower profile gives less flex while cornering.
With the brand the Pirelli's are nice riding and give gradually but there are much better tires on the market for spirited and track driving.

Hm... never really understood why you'd want to change the nice stock tires & rims for our cars. They seem pretty nice to me... guess I'm not too picky

The SS/NA's came with 205s
225 is the smallest size I have ran in a few years...with a larger tire you can brake better, steer better, take off better, etc.
Only negative thing from larger tires I can think of is they are more prone to hydroplaning...so get a tire that kicks ass in the rain IF you are worried about it

That's a nice size, I ran that size on the stock wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season's. Not a bad tire, it is not going to last as long treadwise as I had hoped, but the next tire is going to be 235/40/18 or 225/40/18 if I can get some questions answered....
