Hi there,

I am considering purchasing a SS/SC this coming week and one thing is it comes with summer tires on th 18" wheels..

I am in need of winter tires for the cold ontario, canada winters

Now, I have been reading about getting HHR Steelies or any 16x7 sized wheels and am considering these...

If I do this, what sized tires would they support as to prevent any significant offset with the speedometer??

205/60/16

is the closest possible setup.

and the rims for the hhr are the right size for winter for a ss/sc.

205/55/16 is also very close (25.1" I believe) That's one of the stock sizes for the lower end Cobalts.

 

205/55/16 is a bit smaller but works just fine. thats what i got, simply cause they were free snow tires. however, 205/60/16 is a better choice. 205/55/16 is far more common though.

 

ny1 know what size tires the hhr steelies would support for a maximum tire width??

eg. 215/60r16 or something similar on the hhr wheels???

The HHR's would come stock with 205/55/16, but you could definitly put a 215/55/16 on there (although its an uncommon size). A wider tire doesn't give you better traction in ice and snow however.

 

Hey, if you're looking for the best winter tire, without getting different rims. I would recommend Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero . I just got them and its a night and day difference when driving on winter roads.

 

I bought my SS/SC in December, same story. I went on tire rack and got the 16s steelies and some winterforce studded tires. It was like 560 bucks american shipped to my door mounted, balanced and studded. The winter force tires are the cheapest but let me tell yah they are bad ass. If you didnt get any tires yet go for those; you wont be sorry.

 

no offence, but don't waste your money on these. Get steelies and rubber in 16inch size. They'll last longer and give better traction for the same amount of money. Plus then you'll save your rims from salt etc and save money not having to put the tires on again every year. Go to Kal-Tire they'll hook you up.
