Winter tire question ???

My question is do I really need a set of 4 tires or can I get away with just having the front 2 tires as winter tred?

Im looking into buying some 16" winter tire n wheels from tirerack.com

Theres another thread on this currently. Lots of people say no its not safe because you have 2 tires with good traction and 2 tires with bad traction and lots say it doesn't matter. My vote is that its not safe. All you need it a little sideways motion and you're gonna fish tail if you're not paying attention. Spend themoney and get 4. This way you can also allow proper rotations and give the tires a longer life so it might be worth the $$ in the end.

My car is away for the winter right now but, from what I have heard the Balt on the pirelli's, in snow, doesnt' work. They pretty much are strictly summer tires. And for the 2 snow tire idea, thats a bad idead also. If you put the snows in the front there is a high risk of the back end going around in the snow, which could lead to a nice accident. I would stick with 4 snows to keep our balts safe.

Bad ride in snow on the pirellis. I would just by the set of 4. 2 extra tires are a lot cheaper than paying for $1000s in body damage.

my balt's parked for the winter. IMO I would just get 4 tires, why risk something happening?
