Porous engine
Back in March this year I bought a 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS. The car had only 37,000 miles and it was a one owner car. It had a GMS1 tune at the time I purchased the car. Everything was fine. About a month ago I noticed I was losing coolant when my low coolant warning displayed on the dash. I did purchase a third party warranty for the car, so I called the nearby dealership to set up an appointment to find out why I was losing coolant. At the same time I read a lot of forums online talking about the porous engine problem. When I took the car to the dealership I told them about this porous engine problem that I read about online and the service manager said that he'd never heard about that problem he even checked the TSB and never found anything on it. I told him I saw lots of stuff about it and to consider that when trying to find the problem with my coolant loss. Long story short the dealership said it was a leaking water pump leaking internally into the engine. So they contacted my warranty company and the company agreed to pay for most of the charges which amounted to about $1,000. After having the car for a week I got the car back started driving it and noticed the coolant was going down again. So I took the car back to the dealership where the service manager and technician thought maybe it was airbound and was still drawing in coolant so they topped it off kept the car for 2 days running the motor at idle and said that everything was OK to pick the car up. Started driving the car to work which I work 40 miles round trip and notice in right away that the coolant level was starting to drop again. Contacted the dealership and spoke to the service manager and told him the situation he said to keep an eye on the level to see if it drops anymore. Haven't driven the car in the last 3 days went out to check the level and it was almost gone from the reservoir. Pulled the dipstick out and noticed that the oil level was about 3 or 4 inches above the full level which is kind of tells me there's something else in the oil pan besides oil. I will be contacting the service department at the dealership tomorrow to take the car back in. I don't know if the warranty company will cover something like this I guess we'll find out. I would just buy a LDK motor for the car now but I want to see if I'm covered. I will update later

The only way for that to happen is to be on gms1 or trifecta/hpt and that's why they void your warranty andmake you pay for it YET gm knew about this from the manufacturing point and now they don't want to fix it.

It's possible that they don't know about it. Even though it's a relatively high percentage, we're only talking about ten's or hundred's of cars. The ones who DO know about it are GM but they'll never admit there was a problem even though they addressed and fixed the issue in the LDK/LHU block. Douches.
