DIY Cold Air Intake

So, I am attempting to do a DIY Cold Air Intake for my 2.2L; and succeeded to a point. I bought a second air box top to have the place where the MAF sensor bolts too, and chopped/trimmed it. Then I added a coupler and some Spectre tube pieces (going as cheap as possible w/o using PVC, I have some dignity) and a K&N pod filter. Still needs some work but with some fiddling it fits. The problem comes that when started, the engine popped a P0300 random misfire code. Does the distance where the MAF sits inside affect the reading? Or is this a fruitless endeavor?

And before anyone says it, I live in Puerto Rico. Shipping to this island SUCKS *****. That's why I'm going the DIY route.

If you change the size or position off the maf housing drastically, it needs to be retuned. Does it run better with the maf unplugged?

If i were you, i would build a tube that just runs to the stock airbox like zzp sells.

Didn't try with the unplugged MAF.

What I did was trim the tube where the MAF sits so that I could slip on a silicone coupler. Sort of like the airbox cut mod for N/A models. Then comes a 90 degree elbow to run it to the fender well.

I am proud of how it looks, just upset about the code. Also, yes I'm doing the other section as well.
