Thoughts on GMR Cams

Those of you with them or had them, what do you think of them. Would in your opinion say they are a worth while mod or are they not worth the money. Also would valvetrain components need to be changed out if you are staying at a 7k rev limit for the time being? I would really like to hear from Area47 since he had them then got rid of them.

I was going to say that you should talk to him directly, but you have the idea. The springs will have to be changed for sure though. I have a set but I can't install mine until April when I get back from deployment.

well he's not the easiest person to get ahold of on here haha. So springs... anything else people? And if I'm upgrading springs wouldn't that mean that you could rev higher than as well?

As far as I know, most people are ditching them due to issues with the base circle and the whole shimming the lifters thing... which in it's self is a problem due to them getting **** out of the seat at high RPM's.

But... seeing as I bought Area's old GM-R's, I guess I'm willing to tackle what ever problems are associated with them.

hack jobs ftl. ghetto rigged should never happen when building an engine. they are instant fails.

so basically we have to wait for solid lifters to actually make cams work properly?

I know that gm has their own spring and valve kit for the lsj and upgraded valves on the intake and exhaust side. Maybe that's also necessary for the cams.

You will need solid lifters or shim the stock ones to let the cams work without having any problems. But then again I know ItalianJoe has them with just valve springs and they are working fine.

Old thread bump.

Wat have we learned about these Cams up till today.
I have several ways to make these work properly with or with out solid lifters.
I even think i have a fix for the valve hight issue also.

I know we have the Zzp Cams available that r more or less drop in but would like to make a set of GMRs work for my 2.4lsj. Since Im in the final stages of completion.

Holy old thread.

Solid lifters IMO. Locally we tried shimming the stock lash adjusters years ago, but they eventually fell out and were all over the head.
